Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. The primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces, the New England region of the United States, and Bermuda. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products; including, bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollow-core planking, piling and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq. ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq. ft. In Bedford, Nova Scotia.
In addition to our precast facilities, Strescon opened a state of the art, 32,000 sq. ft. pipe plant in 2001, manufacturing concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins.
We are currently seeking a reliable and motivated
Yard Labourer
to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting with the handling, storage, and loading of precast concrete products in the plant yard. This role involves operating equipment, maintaining yard organization, and ensuring safe and efficient movement of materials. The position requires a commitment to safety and a strong work ethic.
Responsibilities
Material Handling:
Load, unload, and move precast concrete products using cranes, forklifts, or other equipment.
Yard Organization:
Maintain proper storage and dunnage placement of finished products.
Inspection:
Check products for damage before loading and report any issues.
Equipment Operation:
Safely operate yard cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment (training provided if needed). Perform checks and basic maintenance on forklift, shunt truck and front loader.
Housekeeping:
Keep yard clean and organized; remove debris and maintain safe working conditions.
Assist Production:
Support plant operations when required, including moving forms or materials.
Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols, wear PPE, and report hazards immediately.Moving materials around the site or storage facility as needed.
Complete additional task as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
Must have own transportation (no public transportation available)
Ability to communicate in basic English (Both verbal and written)
Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing manual labor.
Previous experience in the concrete and/or construction industry considered an asset.
Some experience operating front end loader, forklift and shunt truck considered an asset.
Must be familiar with and adhere to service requirements, equipment and operator limitations and safe operating procedures.
Ability to handle light and heavy loads.
CSA approved 8" steel toe boots
Willingness to work long shifts and extra hours
Commitment to following company safety protocols and quality standards.
Strong attendance record and a positive attitude
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
