The Yard foreman is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the lumber yard, ensuring accurate inventory management, efficient logistics and deliveries, and effective supervision of yard staff. This role ensures the safe, organized, and timely movement of building materials to meet customer needs and support store operations.
Key Responsibilities1. Inventory Management
Oversee all inventory in the yard, including lumber, panels, hardware, and related building materials.
Maintain accurate inventory counts through regular cycle counts and stock audits.
Coordinate with purchasing to ensure proper stock levels and timely replenishment.
Implement proper material handling and storage procedures to reduce damage and loss.
2. Logistics & Deliveries
Schedule, route, and dispatch deliveries for company trucks, ensuring on-time service to customers.
Verify all orders for accuracy before loading and delivery.
Monitor truck loading/unloading to ensure efficiency and compliance with safety regulations.
Liaise with drivers and customers to resolve delivery issues quickly and professionally.
3. Staff Supervision & Training
Lead, train, and supervise all yard staff to ensure safe, productive, and courteous service.
Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and enforce company policies.
Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure adherence to health & safety standards.
Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment.
4. Yard Operations & Safety
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free yard at all times.
Ensure proper maintenance of forklifts, trucks, and yard equipment.
Oversee seasonal tasks such as snow removal, ice control, and grass cutting.
Enforce proper PPE use and safe operating procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
3+ years of experience in a lumber yard, building center, or construction supply environment (management experience preferred).
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of lumber grades, building materials, and construction terminology.
Proficient in inventory control systems and basic computer applications.
Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (license an asset).
Strong communication skills and customer service focus.
Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Pay: $22.00-$27.00 per hour
