Overview




The Ktunaxa Nation Council has an opening for a Full Time Maintenance Worker for the Cranbrook KNC Government Building.

This is an entry-level position requiring a valid driver's license.


The maintenance worker takes care of the physical assets and safety of the KNC staff through the upkeep of the physical working environment. They are responsible for maintenance of all KNC properties to a high standard and ensuring that all properties are functional, clean, and safe working environments. Under the direction of the Maintenance Technician and Director of Core Services, the maintenance worker participates in day-to-day maintenance and hazard identification through keen observation and communication with staff, reducing risks to staff citizens and visitors to our programs and properties.

Salary range:

$45,641-53,685

Responsibilities




Routine Maintenance

: Make adjustments and or minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems. Arranges septic cleanouts.

Carpentry

:Use hand and power tools to repair indoor and outdoor fixtures.

Painting/Installations/Assembly

: Enhance or improve the physical environment by painting, installing fixtures or blinds and assembling furnishings or shelving. Also, assist with technology installations.

Grounds Maintenance

:Mow, weed, fertilize, water, seed lawns, trim shrubs and perform other basic landscaping tasks.

Snow and Ice Removal

:Ensure that sidewalks are free from snow and ice, and that salt is applied when needed to remove pedestrian and vehicular hazards.

Traditional Crafts, Language and Culture

:Raise tepees and assist with other traditional preparations for Ktunaxa cultural events.

Safety:

Ensure that all systems and equipment are "to code' and safe.

Ordering Materials

:Obtain purchase orders, orders and picks up materials required for maintenance, repairs or installations.

Other:

"Set up" for meetings and conferences; pick up and deliver parcels; coordinate recycling for the organization.

Academic Preparation


Grade Twelve Graduation Diploma

Experience / Expertise


Familiarity with general maintenance in a diverse organization with multiple sites
Familiarity with carpentry, welding, engines, plumbing and electrical systems including codes an asset.
Experience and versatility with a wide range of tools, equipment, troubleshooting and repair techniques
The proven ability to deliver responsive, cost-effective repair solutions
The ability to anticipate needs/problems and to plan/prioritize tasks in the short and long term.
An understanding of and commitment to quality and safety

Other Skills, Knowledge and Experience


Knowledge of and appreciation for the Ktunaxa history, tradition, culture and goals.
Current First Aid Certification
Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable vehicle is required

Work Conditions




This is an in-person position working primarily from the Cranbrook office with travel within ?amak?is Ktunaxa.

Physical Environment


All work is very physical and requires a high degree of strength, flexibility and stamina.
Much of the work is done outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions.

Physical Effort


There is a requirement to be able to lift heavy boxes, objects and to move furniture.
Manual dexterity is required in using a wide range of tools and equipment.
