Women’s Recovery Home Supervisor (permanent, Full Time)

This position will be responsible for the specific operations and supervision of Joanna Home and also play a role in assisting the Director in developing vision and designing programs, as well as provide leadership and support for all recovery care workers at Joanna Home. You will be involved in discerning vision, developing culture and spiritual health, and designing programs that utilize best practices and foster effective outcomes. As Supervisor, you are responsible for the operation of Joanna Home including supervision of residents, staffing, volunteer relations, training and problem solving for the fostering of effective team relationships. You will also play a significant role in ensuring that internal communications are facilitated through a consultative process between Joanna Home staff and leadership.

Main Duties & Responsibilities




Model Christ in word and deed. With the Director, lead in the day-to-day activities of Joanna Home, provide support, spiritual formation, and other assistance; build strong relationships with the residents. Provide supervision and leadership to other Joanna Home staff by creating a safe place for them to debrief personal problems or critical incidents and receive support as appropriate. Participate in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluating of program activities and special projects. Present new program ideas and long-term planning initiatives to management. Support the smooth functioning of Joanna Home; including coordinating services (e.g. cleaning and maintaining the home and office space in a clean and presentable condition) as well as making recommendations to improve procedures; identify, analyze and interpret problems and propose workable solutions to the problems of the staff and residents. Participate in hiring, training and spiritual development of staff; provide service and support to staff. Facilitate staff meetings, team building and initiatives in training, workshops, Bible Studies, devotionals and special events. Conduct annual performance reviews, and involved in all incident reports and debriefing, for all Cedar Haven staff. Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety. Provide spiritual care as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mature individual, committed to UGM's Mission Statement, Core Values and Statement of Faith. Vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ our Creator, as Saviour and Lord. Related post-secondary education, combined with several years of related supervisory experience. A minimum of 2 years of related work experience is required, with knowledge of issues related to vulnerable women experiencing various barriers including poverty and addiction. Consideration may be given to alternate combinations of lived experience and education. At least 40 hours of training in one or more of these subjects: counselling; crisis and conflict resolution; psychosocial intervention for substance use disorders; and trauma-informed practice. Advanced administrative, interpersonal and time management skills. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. Experience in developing and implementing outreach strategies to marginalized people. Program planning, evaluation, organizational skills to co-ordinate ministry activities. Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and situations. Excellent supervisory and time management skills. Proficient in current Windows based computer operating environment. Complete UGM's Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Course. Complete leadership training and other training deemed needed by Director, including First Aid training/certification and Naloxone training/certification. Willing to provide current vaccination information. Technical Competency--Trauma-Informed Care (Level 3): Help identify negative events that have impacted the client's functioning, and develop interventions that emphasize safety, choice, and personal control.

Working Conditions




Work Location



Work is generally performed indoors within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.


Physical Requirements



Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing, walking or reaching for up to 40% of the time. Employee is required to look at a computer screen and use a keyboard for up to 60% of the time.


Work Conditions



Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is performed amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises. This position is required to work in an environment often dealing with clients in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position.


Hours of Work



Weekend and evening work is required. Moderate overtime may be required.


Hazards



Job requires interaction with the residents some of whom may sometimes be upset, abusive, and/or violent. Job requires working occasionally in unhealthy conditions, including exposure to bodily fluids, lice and bedbugs. Employee is required to hear information about clients' lives which may be troubling or upsetting, and may cause emotional issues including vicarious trauma.
