Turning Point is a progressive, non-profit organization located in downtown Red Deer actively engaged in changing the conversation surrounding drug use, people who use drugs, homelessness, HIV and vulnerable populations. Position: Women's Program Outreach Support Worker
Reports to: Program manager/Executive Director
Hours of Work: 35hours/week
Job Purpose: To contribute to the work of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure respect and dignity for all, in a safe and healthy community.
Key Responsibilities:
The Women's Program Outreach Support Worker is part of a collaborative team. The roles and responsibilities are as follows:
• Work with a multi-disciplinary team;
• Case management and rapport building with Red Deer's most vulnerable pregnant women
• Navigation and understanding of community health (and social determinants of health) resources
• Act as a resource and support by using a client-centered, health promotion approach with clients;
• Provide interim support to clients until they are engaged with sustainable community resources, which includes but is not limited to: Provide urgent referrals to appropriate social agencies based on client needs; Provide information and education; Provide assistance and facilitating or providing transportation to access appropriate services; valid Driver's License and reliable transportation is required for this position; Empower clients to take steps towards independence; Facilitate the development of a professional and/or natural support network; Make referral to appropriate social agencies as needed and in consultation with team;
• Facilitate client engagement with sustainable community supports, which includes but is not limited to: Develop and foster a strong rapport with the client; Utilize a variety of outreach methods to reach isolated and/or disengaged clients; and Assessing client barriers to services and facilitating access as required;
• Complete data collection and case notes relevant to program evaluation;
• Participate in staff meetings;
• Maintain current knowledge and skills; and
• Attend agency functions as required
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will work with the Woman's Program at Turning Point in Red Deer. The position requires an empathic and non-judgmental person who is able to utilize critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills to provide care to individuals and families. The successful candidate will require:
• 1+ years education & experience in related fields
• Sound knowledge of and commitment to harm reduction and health promotion approach of care
• Understanding of trauma, determinants of health, and addictions
• Proficient computer & data collection/reporting skills
• Experience working with marginalized individuals and communities who have experienced poverty and addictions
• Ability to develop and maintain key relationships with community partners
• Strong communication, problem-solving & organizing skills
• Ability to work independently, with a team & with community partners
• Access to reliable vehicle and clean driver's abstract
• Knowledge of community resources considered an asset
