Join the women's centre team as a support worker to make a meaningful difference in our community!
Tri-County Women's Centre support workers are responsible for providing confidential and respectful support services and programs to clients of the women's centre, and contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the centre. Support services help clients with securing their physiological and safety needs, and include assisting clients to meet their self-determined goals, and providing supportive listening, information, advocacy and referrals. However, please note: this is not a therapeutic role.
Delivery of programs and services will be consistent with our guiding principles as an intersectional feminist organization and be grounded in a trauma-informed, harm-reduction approach within a welcoming and safe environment. Please note that this is an emotionally-challenging role in an environment that is, at times, high stress.
Support workers' duties and responsibilities
• Support clients to meet their self-determined goals
• Provide systems navigation, advocacy and accompaniment (to court, police and medical appointments) as requested
• Consult and liaise with community service agencies to maintain up-to-date information on available resources and develop collaborative community relations
• Provide referrals to community partners for further assistance to clients
• Assist with planning, running & evaluating our support programs and services
• Maintain and provide statistics and reports regarding service delivery
• There will be some travel to external meetings and occasional client accompaniments.
• Other related duties as required
The successful candidate will have :
• Successful completion of Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Screening & Child Abuse Registry Screening
• 2-3 yrs experience with direct service delivery including supportive counseling and advocacy
• Understanding of and experience with intersectional feminist theory and practice
• Relevant experience and/or related post-secondary education
• A clear understanding of confidentiality and the dynamics of a "supportive" relationship, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and provide support within these parameters.
• Reliable transportation
• Computer literacy
It would be great if you have...
• First Aid Certificate / Mental Health First Aid
• Conflict resolution skills
• Fluency in languages other than English
• Bachelor's degree or college diploma in a related social science field
• Working knowledge of partners within the local communities.
