is seeking an experienced
Winter Ice Road Foreperson
for Arctic Ice Road operations, familiar with ice, land and lake crossings, to oversee the construction and maintenance of a northern winter ice road project in Nunavut. This is a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off or 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotational position with fully remote camp accommodations.
As the Winter Ice Road Foreperson, you will lead and supervise a multidisciplinary crew (including Multi-Operators, Snowcat Operators, Water Truck Drivers, and Fuel Truck Drivers) to ensure safe, efficient, and timely ice-road crossing operations. You will plan, coordinate, and monitor daily activities, enforce safety protocols, manage remote-camp logistics for your team, and serve as a critical link between field crews and the site leadership. All listed positions report to you.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise all field crews on the ice road (crossing operations, equipment movements, routine maintenance).
Plan and coordinate daily/weekly work with Site Supervisor; ensure timely crossings and route maintenance.
Monitor ice, weather, and hazards; implement risk controls and adjust plans as conditions change.
Enforce safety programs, SOPs, and regulatory requirements; conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks.
Maintain logs for personnel, equipment, inspections, incidents, and training; ensure current pre-employment checks.
Manage remote-camp logistics for your crew (lodging, meals, communications) and coordinate with Camp Management.
Investigate near-misses/incidents; lead corrective actions with Safety and Site Leadership.
Optimize fleet availability and on-site efficiency through coordination with Operators, Drivers, and Camp Support.
Oversee onboarding and training on ice-road safety and emergency procedures.
Report site conditions to Site Supervisor and regional leadership.
Qualifications and Requirements Minimum
3-5 years of Arctic Winter Ice Road supervisory experience overseeing ice, land, and lake crossings; proven ability to lead crews on seasonal routes.
Essential: previous heavy equipment operator experience on Arctic ice roads with hands-on equipment knowledge.
Strong leadership, communication, and people-management skills for remote teams.
Valid operator licenses relevant to the role (drivers: CDL or provincial; operators: equipment-specific).
Ability to work in remote northern conditions and live in remote camps.
Commitment to safety and risk management; proactive hazard identification and mitigation.
Ability to work rotating shifts (including nights) and be away from home for extended periods.
Pre-employment clearances may apply (medical, criminal background checks, drug & alcohol testing).
Preferred licensing & certifications
Heavy Equipment Operator Certification or proven equivalent experience.
Prior remote-camp work experience.
Ice-road safety, first aid/CPR, or wildlife/environmental awareness certifications (where applicable).
Skills & competencies

Excellent situational awareness, decision-making, and problem-solving in dynamic ice-road conditions.
