We are looking for a Wind Tunnel Controller to support our Aerospace Research Centre. This person would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
As a Wind Tunnel Controller, you will work as part of the 1.5m Tri-sonic wind tunnel Operations Group of the Aerodynamic Laboratory providing lead technical support in mechanical and instrumentation aspects while coordinating wind tunnel testing and operating the wind tunnel.
Throughout a wind tunnel test program, you will be responsible for providing mechanical and instrumentation technical support related to test development and preparation, test execution, and post-test activities. Additionally, during the test execution phase you will operate the wind tunnel and as required, your role will include training and mentoring of junior tunnel operators. Throughout a test program you will support the Operational Facility Supervisor in the generation of task planning and execution by giving feedback on schedules, working procedures, guidelines and hazard assessments. You will be required to liaison with the Operational Facility Supervisor, Project Engineers and Facility Engineers for the purpose of maintaining efficient test execution by ensuring expected test conditions and schedules are adhered to. This will include regular reporting on the project progress and identifying project scope changes to the project lead and Operational Facility Supervisor.
Additionally, you will participate in activities related to improving operational efficiency, test methods and tunnel maintenance. As the Wind Tunnel Controller, you will apply your technical knowledge to develop, implement and improve test section configurations and flow survey devices for wind tunnel testing based on coordinating and taking part in the configuration of the wind tunnel for various operational modes, and monitoring wind tunnel data for consistency and accuracy.

Education


Diploma from a post-secondary institution in a technical, engineering or scientific discipline related to the position, or equivalent combination of work related experience, training and education.

Experience


  • Extensive ground test facility experience in the development, preparation, execution and operation of test programs that involve deliverables to clients;
  • Significant experience in the maintenance, operation and care of ground test facilities;
  • Extensive experience with planning and execution of medium to large-sized fee-for-service test programs or associated development projects;
  • Significant experience using software typical to a scientific testing, project management or engineering environment such as Visio, Word, Excel, MS Project, MATLAB;
  • Extensive experience in calibrating systems and equipment, providing calibration certificates and keeping records for ISO and Audit purposes;
  • Experience in the use of machine shop and lab equipment is an asset; and
  • Experience with CAD software and programming software (e.g., Labview, C) is an asset.

  • Advanced knowledge of the operating and monitoring of ground test facility systems and identifying problems based on baseline conditions and limitations;
  • Solid knowledge of equipment maintenance requirements and processes; and
  • Solid knowledge of safe practices for material handling, fall arrest equipment, confined space entry, cranes and rigging.

Relocation


Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Compensation


From $73,744 to $94,839 per annum.
