Sailcone's Grizzly Bear Lodge is looking for a Photography Guide/Captain for the upcoming season. We operate from a small lodge (8clients) located in Knight Inlet BC. We conduct tours for Grizzly Bears and whale watching. Trips are conducted by boat, as well as on land. Staff are boated or flown in from Vancouver Island. All meals and simple accommodation is provided on site. The main responsibilities of the guides are safetly operating tours, educating and conversing with guests and delivering excellent customer service at all times. Time off is flexible based on bookings although with the seasonal business shifts of up to 2 weeks can be expected. Experience conducting tours and commercial boat operation is reacquired as well as applicable tickets. We look forward to hearing from you.
Responsibilities:
- Waking guests and preparing coffee/assisting with breakfast setup
- Pre tripping vessels, including mechanical inspection, cleanliness and ensuring all items and lunches are loaded
- Tours for Grizzly Bear/Black Bear and Whales. We operate from small vessels with a maximum of 5 guests. As a results guides are often required to work solo. trips normally depart at 730 and return at 300 on changeover days and 430 on no changeover days. On changeover days local tours (1-2 hrs are done after guest arrival). These included operating in choppy waters, transferring from boat to land and driving guests up to river systems in the area. Candidate must be comfortable operating in foggy conditions, moderate winds and have a good understanding on general boat operation. Lunches are served during the tours and are picnic style
- Post tripping vessels including cleaning, basic maintenance and restocking.
- Guides are required to assist guests with any questions or help out after arrival. Dinner is usually served at 6-630. Staff normally dines with the guests
- Helping out when needed around the lodge, including assisting kitchen, fueling boats and unloading freight.
Experience:
- Work in ecotourism is an asset
- Marine skills
- Work as a guide or naturalist, preferably on the BC coast
- Formal education in Biology and/or tourism related fields
- Applicable training and/or experience relating to safe and ethical Bear and Whale watching
- Photography skills is an asset
Required
- SVOP, ROC-M, MED-A3 (or equivalent)
- Marine First Aid (or equivalent)
- Bear safety training (Can arrange for the right candidate)
