responsible for quoting and cost management of welding shop projects, including rebuilds and new fabrications. This role involves reviewing project scopes with customers, preparing accurate quotes, and delivering finalized estimates. The Welding Estimator ensures a purchase order is secured before work begins and is accountable for all internal costs charged to the work order, as well as the project's gross margin.

The salary range for this position is
$145,000 - $160,000 plus incentive.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Project Estimation & Cost Management:
Manage costs for all quoted welding projects, including site visits to assess and quote work (e.g., shovel buckets, sticks, bails, bucket doors, truck boxes). Prepare accurate quotes, address customer inquiries, and secure purchase orders before work begins. Order materials, track labour hours, and provide regular updates to both customers and the welding department. Oversee project completion, ensuring quality standards, and prepare a detailed final report with job scope, photos, and cost justification. Support the welding department as needed.
Support for Welding Supervisors & Coordinators:
Communicate job scope for quoted projects to Welding Supervisors and Coordinators. Provide twice-weekly updates on actual vs. quoted labour hours. Act as a liaison between customers and the welding team, ensuring clarity on project details and approvals. Notify customers of additional work found during the project and secure necessary approvals. Communicate customer priorities and deadlines to the Welding Coordinators.
Customer Service & Quality Assurance:
Provide timely and accurate welding project quotes to customers. Maintain regular communication with customers on project status. Ensure all extra work is approved and a revised purchase order is obtained before proceeding. Promptly inform customers of any additional work identified during the project. Conduct a final quality assurance review before returning completed projects to customers. Prepare a final report summarizing project details and work completed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a
Journeyperson Welder
with a minimum of
5 years welding expereince on mining equipment.
A combination of education and expereince may be considered. Additional qualifications include:
Thorough knowledge of maintenance, repair, and fabrication of Mining Equipment.
3 years in leadership expereince in a welding environment.
Proficiency in project planning using software on MS-Projects
Knowledge and experience with CWB, OH&S Acts and Regulations as it regards Mining Equipment inspection requirements
Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize resources, meet deadlines, and drive project completion.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant estimating software.
Versatile team player with the ability to work independently or collaboratively
Committed to delivering high customer service standards and fostering client relationships.
Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy with a variety of individuals and groups.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
