The Cost Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project requirements, reviewing technical drawings, and preparing accurate cost estimates for fabricated components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, labor, and overhead costs to ensure competitive and profitable pricing.
Key Responsibilities:
Review technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand project scope
Calculate material, labor, and production costs for custom fabrication projects
Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for raw materials and outsourced work
Prepare detailed estimates and present them to management or customers
Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to ensure accuracy in pricing and feasibility
Track and update cost data and material pricing regularly
Identify cost-saving opportunities and suggest value engineering alternatives
Assist in preparing bid proposals and responding to RFQs
Maintain organized records of estimates and bid documentation
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Cost Estimator, ideally in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of fabrication processes including welding, cutting, bending, and assembly
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
Excellent math and analytical skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or ERP systems is a plus)
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Effective communication and organizational skills
High school diploma required, associate's or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with estimating software and ERP systems
Familiarity with industry standards and fabrication materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless)
Background in project management or production planning is an asset
