Main Responsibilities

Terus Construction is a leader in the construction industry in BC and the Yukon specializing in road construction, ready-mix concrete, aggregates and civil construction. Our Prince Rupert operation of Terus Construction Ltd is seeking a Welder to join our team.

Job Summary
The Welder lays out, positions, fabricates, repairs and secures mechanical parts on heavy construction, mining and crushing equipment, as per specifications. Working within the company\xe2\x80\x99s welding shop and/or at one of the company\xe2\x80\x99s quarries. The Welder is responsible for fabricating or repairing equipment and parts, while reducing or eliminating equipment down time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ability to read and work from shop/production drawings, blueprints, and welding process specification.
• Ability to read and understand welding symbol to produce a sound, clean and quality weld.
• Fit and prepare jigs for welding components.
• Operate both SMAW and GMAW equipment.
• Be experienced in the use of Stick, Wire feed and carbon ARC gouging equipment
• Safely operate manual and/or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment.
• Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company\xe2\x80\x99s Code of Ethics.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to problem solve and plan ahead.
• Ability to work overtime/weekends.
• Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Preferred Qualifications
• High-School Diploma or G.E.D
• Provincial Journeyperson OR Red Seal Journeyperson Welding Ticket.
• 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year apprentice.
• Understanding of welding techniques, ideally in a heavy construction/mining setting.
• Knowledge of heavy construction/mining equipment as well as crushing/processing facilities.

Requirements

• Travel as required.
• Overtime as required.
• Use of personal protection equipment is required.
• Must comply with the company\xe2\x80\x99s drug and alcohol policy, including testing requirements.
• Must comply with all company policies.
• Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
• Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
