Safe at Home Society (SAHS) is looking for a Watson Lake Housing Coordinator. The position will work out of an office in Watson Lake. This individual must be a strengths-based, creative team player committed to ending homelessness by staying housing-focused. This position will report to SAHS\xe2\x80\x99 Executive Director, through the Regional Coordinated Access Coordinator and be part of a robust team working towards ending homelessness across Yukon. MAIN PURPOSE: To engage service providers and partners attached to the homelessness-support system in Watson Lake by facilitating a Coordinated Housing Access Team. This position will develop, implement, and sustain a By-Name List and related coordinated access initiatives. Working alongside a Data Lead (to be hired) at SAHS, the Coordinator will help develop a Community plan which could be utilized by other rural communities across the Yukon.
  • Immediate start to March 31, 2024 with potential to extend funding
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND SCOPE Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the development and management of a housing committee and coordinated access (CA) system, a community-based approach to ending homelessness with local partners;
  • Broadly promote a housing committee and CA system in Watson Lake with organizations, service providers, First Nations, the public and individuals with lived experience of homelessness;
  • Facilitate engagement and create dialogue amongst community homeless-serving system partners in the planning and implementation of CA on a regular basis with support from the Regional Coordinated Access Manager;
  • Evaluate existing community approaches to CA and homelessness response, identifying strategies and approaches that reflect best-practices and that are tailored to evolving and changing community needs;
  • Work closely with the Regional Data Lead towards a quality By-Name List of all known individuals experiencing homelessness;
  • Coordinate intakes onto the By-Name List and support common assessment, referral and prioritization of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Watson Lake;
  • Ensure that confidentiality and all operations related to CA are done in accordance with relevant privacy legislation (i.e. ATIPP and HIPMA);
  • Create and maintain Watson Lake\xe2\x80\x99s CA policy guide on behalf of the local housing committee in consultation with key partners;
  • Lead capacity building within the housing and homelessness service sector, coordinating learning and training opportunities for service providers across sectors with the support of the Regional Coordinated Access Manager;
  • Ensure system integrity and alignment with evidence-based practices to provide accountability to all levels of government for funding and service delivery standards; and
  • Engage and support landlords and housing providers as needed, with a particular focus on supporting access to new units attached to Watson Lake\xe2\x80\x99s By-Name List.
Qualifications:
  • Completed post-secondary education in social services or related field and a minimum 2 years work, volunteer, or lived experience related to homelessness, outreach, housing, and supports; a combination of experiences will be considered;
  • Awareness of non-government, First Nations, and territorial government agencies and resources as they relate to client and landlord support;
  • Knowledge of decolonizing and housing first approaches to client support;
  • Awareness of the complexities of homelessness, poverty, and the colonial context of homelessness in Yukon, and related issues;
  • A strong relationship with the Liard First Nations and other FN communities in proximity to Watson Lake; and
  • Knowledge of SAHS vision, Built for Zero Canada, the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness\xe2\x80\x99 allied networks, Reaching Home: Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Homelessness Strategy, and related plans/initiatives
Skills & Abilities
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel;
  • Knowledge of the Residential Landlord Tenant Act an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and facilitating presentations to large and small groups;
  • Ability to apply a high degree of discretion in establishing supportive, trusting relationships with tenants, landlords, and various service providers;
  • Possess the ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate several tasks at once; and
  • The submission of a Vulnerable Sector check
