Summarized Position Responsibilities: The successful candidate will support Water Supply and Treatment Operators to promote the safe, efficient, effective, and continuous operation and maintenance of the City\xe2\x80\x99s water treatment facilities. The Water Supply and Treatment Operator I will assist with the operation, maintenance, control and monitoring of the CWK\xe2\x80\x99s treatment plant systems; including raw water storage, flow meters, chlorination and UV water treatment systems, online water quality analyzers, reservoirs, and emergency back\xe2\x80\x93up power generators. Perform routine inspections and maintain documentation and appropriate communications related to safety, system conditions, operational changes, calibrations, set point adjustments, system checks, malfunctions and corrective actions. Participation in the standby rotation is a requirement of this position.
Our Ideal Candidate:
Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) Level I in Water Treatment
1 year operating experience in an EOCP Class I or higher system / facility
Occupational First Aid Level I
WHMIS 2015
Valid Class 5 BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
Confined Space Entry
Chlorine Handling
Completion of any WorkSafeBC recognized course such as: Ground disturbance, safe excavation and shoring, Fall Protection, Confined Space, or Transportation of Dangerous Goods, etc. (Preferred)
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite(Preferred)
Familiarity of the Provincial Drinking Water Act and Regulations, and applicable CWK water and sewer use Bylaws
Ability to work on elevated areas and in confined spaces by following applicable Safe Work Procedures
Practical knowledge and experience with online instrumentation, SCADA, PLC\xe2\x80\x99s, HMI\xe2\x80\x99s and GIS
Ability to assist with, valve, pump, reservoir, chlorine gas system etc. preventative / reactive maintenance and troubleshooting
Knowledge related to water quality monitoring programs, sampling and field testing
Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside, in the presence of all types of weather conditions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Able to courteously deal with the public and co\xe2\x80\x93workers under stressful conditions and / or tight timelines
Ability to work flexible hours; including shift work, taking part in the after\xe2\x80\x93hours on\xe2\x80\x93call rosters and emergency call\xe2\x80\x93outs
