The Water/Sewer Operator supports the technical operation, maintenance, and repair of Utilities Department facilities and equipment. The role demands accurate qualitative and quantitative work, including research and reporting. The successful candidate will maintain high standards of safety, efficiency, and workmanship, and follow all company policies related to quality, cost control, waste reduction, and timely completion of tasks.
The position is open to all qualified applicants and is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3003 Collective Agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist senior staff in the operation and maintenance of Department facilities, including Water Plants, Booster Stations, Reservoirs, Wells, Bulk Water Stations, Sewer Lifts, and Sewage Lagoons.
Conduct operation and maintenance activities on equipment such as trucks, jetters, boilers, laboratory/testing equipment, safety equipment, small tools, power equipment, and select heavy-duty machinery.
Support senior staff in delivering core Department functions, including water supply, treatment, distribution, metering, repairs, and appurtenances, as well as sewage collection, treatment, repairs, and related appurtenances.
Participate in training, seminars, and courses required for certification.
Assist with jobsite administrative tasks, including completing timesheets and maintaining daily logs.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area and ensure appropriate tools and equipment are available.
Follow all safe work practices and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
Comply with OH&S regulations, company safety policies, standard operating procedures, and all water and sewer regulations.
Work evening and weekend shifts as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Utilities Manager or designate
Qualifications and Requirements:
Grade 12 education or equivalent.
Experience in the operations and maintenance of Utility Department facilities, equipment, and functions.
Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License or better.
Willingness and ability to:
Work shifts (evenings and weekends) and overtime as required.
Be on call and available by telephone when needed.
Maintain current certifications and pursue higher levels as required, with Level I status to be obtained within the first year of employment.
Desired Experience & Training
Saskatchewan level 1 certification in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, and/or Wastewater Treatment.
Experience in plumbing, electrical, or mechanical fields.
Possession of any of the following is an asset: WHMIS, First Aid & CPR, OH&S Levels I & II, H2S, Ground Disturbance, Confined Space Level I & II
