Role and Responsibilities
We?re seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Entry-Level Water Resources Engineer or Technician to join Swiftwater Consulting?s Vancouver-based team.
This is a unique opportunity for an EIT registered with EGBC to gain hands-on experience in both field and analytical work, supporting principal engineers and technical specialists.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the wilderness, enjoys hiking and remote travel, and is eager to build a career in water resources. You?ll be based in their downtown Vancouver office when not in the field, but expected to spend a significant amount of time in some of the most stunning and rugged landscapes in Western Canada?and beyond.
Some of your duties include:
Field Engineering & Environmental Monitoring
? Plan, prepare, and lead field visits to hydrometric and climate monitoring stations across mining, hydroelectric, and municipal projects.
? Conduct fieldwork in remote locations using helicopters, boats, ATVs, and more.
? Perform:

  • Hydrometric and climate station installations
  • Snow course surveys
  • Limnology and water quality sampling
  • River and lake bathymetric surveys
  • Flow accretion and dilution zone studies
  • Drone-based surveys (thermal, LiDAR, photogrammetry)
  • Groundwater and air quality sampling
  • Manage field data, complete routine reports, and ensure safety documentation is up to date.
Technical Analysis & Reporting
? Conduct QA/QC of environmental and hydrological data.
? Support annual data reporting and baseline environmental characterizations.
? Assist in hydrologic modeling, infrastructure design, and construction supervision.
? Contribute to project documentation, client deliverables, and presentations as your experience grows.
What the successful candidate will bring:
? Civil or Environmental Engineering Degree or Diploma
? Registered as an EIT with EGBC (or eligible)
? Strong technical and practical skills with a resourceful, adaptable mindset
? Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
? Exposure to or interest in technical tools such as:
  • HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, AutoCAD, Civil3D
  • GoldSim, ArcGIS, and database/GIS systems
? Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights (up to 30 ft), and endure long field days (up to 12 hours)
? Willingness to travel frequently and work in remote, rugged environments
? Passion for water, nature, and environmental stewardship
? Training & Certifications (or willingness to obtain)
? First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue, Fall Protection, Ice Rescue
? Basic Drone Pilot & Boat Operator certifications
? Additional vocational training as needed
