The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two regular full-time Water Operator 1's to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Utilities Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will perform mechanical work involving the installation, maintenance and repair of water pumping and pressure reducing stations. This position will assist with complex aspects of utilities operations.
Responsibilities:
Inspect, maintain and service pumping station equipment including control equipment and a variety of other equipment required in the operation of pumping stations
Assist in the installation of pumps and related equipment including pressure reducing valves
Assist in monitoring the telemetric alarms and respond to emergency repairs
Test, clean and repair system water meters, install meters and record data
Perform related work as required
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by technical courses related to the work and sound experience in water systems work or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of a variety of pumping and pressure reducing stations and water treatment systems
Knowledge of the hazards, safety precautions and standards applicable to the work
Ability to inspect operations, perform routine maintenance, repair and installation tasks on pumping equipment and systems
Ability to read meters and gauges and maintain records for the work

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $35.37 per hour (2020 rate) plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.
