City Of Kenora
Water & Wastewater Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator \xe2\x80\x93 Up to 2 positions (one permanent &
one temporary) (If and when the temporary opportunity becomes permanent the successful applicant will transition from
temporary full time to permanent full time, and benefits will be backdated to the start of the temporary assignment. If the position does not become permanent, internal candidates will return to previous
classification and status.)

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator will be responsible for operating, maintaining and inspecting
wastewater treatment processes and undertakes minor servicing of related equipment.
Operators are responsible for ensuring that plant operations are in accordance with applicable federal,
provincial, and municipal legislation.

Duties:

  • Monitors, analyses and adjusts process parameters
  • Performs standard laboratory process testing and maintains accurate records and logs
  • Performs housekeeping, janitorial and other general maintenance duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ontario Regulation 129/04 Waste Water Treatment Operator Class 2 License.
  • If no qualified candidates, the Employer may consider the following under fills in this order:
o Waste Water Treatment Operator Class I License and must successfully complete the
Class 2 exam within two (2) years of date of hire. o Waste Water Treatment Operator OIT License and must successfully complete the
Class 1 exam within the first year of from date of hire. o If no certification, must have a minimum two (2) years previous work experience
directly related to the repair and maintenance of waste water systems and must
successfully obtain their OIT licence within the first year of hire. o *all successful applicants will be required to maintain their MECP operator license for
Wastewater Treatment.
  • Must possess a valid \xe2\x80\x98DZ\xe2\x80\x99 Class Ontario Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License and maintain license in good
standing.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience with the application of related legislation and acts
(Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Water Regulation Act, Safe Drinking Water Act,
Environmental Protection Act).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and computer literacy (Microsoft Work, Excel,
Outlook).
  • Familiarity with SCADA technology.
  • Knowledge of the use and safe handling of treatment chemicals used in the wastewater

treatment process.
  • Initiative, and the ability to work as a team or as an independent complemented with strong

communication, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time, including lifting, bending,

kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, working from scaffolding and heights.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and perform designated duties in varying climate

conditions.
  • Must be able to support 24/7 on-call and attend periodic meetings and functions outside of

regular business hours.
  • Must be available to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts, as specified.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations including the
requirements for job hazard analysis, abiding by safe work procedures, and wearing of
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Ability to get along well with others including supervisors, coworkers, members of the public
and other partners in service.

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday
Wage: OIT (not licensed) $28.34/hr OIT (licensed) $29.32/hr
Class 1 Operator $30.74/hr
Class 2 Operator $32.87/hr
Benefits in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
