(Plus an additional $4.00 hourly rate premium as an Operator II/$5.00 hourly premium as a Plant Operator) CUPE LOCAL 966
Overview
: Our wastewater operations are essential to maintaining public health and environmental sustainability. Our system is responsible for the collection, treatment, and safe disposal of wastewater from homes, businesses, and industries across Peel Region.

The role
: Under general supervision of a Foreperson the incumbent is responsible for monitoring, operating and maintaining municipal wastewater pumping stations, communal wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater linear assets in accordance with Regional, legislative and safety policies.
In this role you will
:
  • Monitor chemical inventories, process equipment performance, perform periodic preventative or unscheduled corrective maintenance to ensure proper operations.
  • Enter confined spaces to inspect condition of equipment or to perform maintenance.
  • Maintain buildings and grounds and exercise emergency standby power generators.
  • Monitor and evaluate wastewater treatment and wastewater collection process performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain continuous compliance with Approvals and regulations under regulations and legislations.
  • Complete forms, work orders, and reports according to approved procedures.
  • Participate and assist with annual Ministry of the Environment facility inspections internal and external audits.
  • Execute duties in a tactful and courteous manner and performs duties in a way which conveys a \'positive image\' of the Region.
What the role requires:
  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years work related experience.
  • Operator II - Minimum acceptable MECP certification is Wastewater Collection Class 1 and Water Distribution Operator-In-Training (OIT), with a preference for progressive advancement of certification to the subsystem class level.
  • Plant Operator - Minimum acceptable MECP certification is Wastewater Collection Class I and Wastewater Treatment Class 1 with the addition of Water Distribution Operator-In-Training preferred.
  • Capable of performing all related work and duties involved in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, water distribution facilities and water treatment facilities.
  • Possess a valid class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d license in good standing, DZ preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.
  • Physically able to perform the requirements of the job.
  • Must be available to participate in standby/on-call duties.
  • Must be capable of accurately completing work forms, logbooks and reports.
Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are currently in the CUPE Local 966-Public Works bargaining unit.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (4-day flexible work schedule currently in effect).
