As a member of the R&D team, the Wastewater Process Engineer will have process engineering responsibilities to meet the product and process R&D objectives of the company. Responsibilities will include developing and executing wastewater process testplans, interpreting and documenting data and results from pilot and full-scale operating plant, troubleshooting pilot and full scale plants as needed, mentoring and supervising technicians, and coordinating with internal departments, external clients, suppliers and partners. This role requires applied research, process and product development, literature review, experimental design and data interpretation, and presenting at conferences. Candidate will be involved in technology development and evaluation based on fundamental and applied research on advanced wastewater treatment and water reuse technologies at pilot and full scale.
Responsibilities
Development and evaluation of new and existing processes for advanced wastewater treatment and water reuse based on membranes.
Modelling of wastewater treatment systems for nutrient removal and water reuse.
Interacting with clients and research partners to execute Process R&D workplans.
Ensure pilot and full scale testing protocols meet the regulatory requirements of the intended application.
Apply specialized knowledge to review, critically appraise, and interpret published literature and testing data.
Coordinate with outside vendors to specify and procure parts and components for design or maintenance of the pilots and testing equipment.
Provide process support to the field service team on commissioning, troubleshooting, and remote monitoring of new plants and ongoing support of existing plants.
Identify, analyze, and solve new, unique, and complex problems as presented in research contracts and projects.
Define and execute the verification and validation of developed water/wastewater/tertiary treatment processes.
Prepare and maintain weekly update summary reports. Format and summarize data and write technical reports based on research findings
Assist in writing reports and proposals (as needed) to the clients or grant agencies.
Contribute towards future R&D protocols and research areas.
Actively promote and participate in continuous improvement of technical solutions by applying the lessons learned from pilot and full scale operating plants
Document new or improved protocols for membrane plant start-up and operation, including procedures for trouble-shooting process related issues in the field.
Experience/Competencies
Master's Degree in Chemical, Civil or Environmental Engineering from accredited university.
5+ years professional experience in wastewater treatment design, R&D or consulting
Professional Engineering License or equivalent is an asset
Strong background in biological wastewater treatment fundamentals is an asset
Experience with membrane bioreactor and UF membrane treatment systems is an asset
Problem solving and creative thinking
Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, membrane, biological and chemical.
Communicating with managers, supervisors, peers and/or subordinates
Teamwork
Planning and organizing
Ability to work with GPS-X and/or Biowin is a plus.

Pay: $110,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
