Job Overview

The Municipality of Miramichi River Valley is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team as a

Wastewater Operator / Maintenance Person

. This dual-role position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the municipality's wastewater systems as well as general maintenance of municipal facilities and infrastructure. The successful candidate must be safety-oriented, adaptable, and willing to participate in an on-call rotation for emergencies.

Duties

Wastewater Operations

Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment facilities and sewer collection systems. Perform inspections, sampling, and testing to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Safely enter confined spaces and operate supplied air equipment as required. Participate in confined space rescue procedures and follow all occupational health and safety regulations. Respond to emergency call-outs on a rotating on-call schedule. Flush sewer lines twice a year and assist with sewer line issues as needed. Maintain logs, records, and reports.

Facility Maintenance

Perform snow removal, ice control, and lawn care at municipal buildings including: Municipal Office Blackville Fire Hall Renous Fire Hall Sunny Corner Fire Hall Provide general repairs and upkeep of municipal buildings to ensure safe and functional public spaces.

Grounds and Infrastructure Maintenance

Maintain municipal green spaces, including grass cutting and trimming at the Municipal Office, Lagoon site, and other assigned areas. Assist with park maintenance and improvements as required. Conduct lagoon testing twice weekly. Install, repair, and maintain municipal street signs. Inspect and clean catch basins. Support sewer line maintenance and emergency repairs as needed.

Other Duties

Carry out any additional tasks or responsibilities as may be assigned by Council from time to time.

Qualifications

Valid safety certifications including: Confined Space Entry & Rescue Supplied Air Training First Aid / Needles (where applicable) Completion of a wastewater or sewer system operator course (or willingness to obtain). Working knowledge of wastewater collection and treatment systems. Ability to safely operate snow removal and grounds maintenance equipment. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Willingness to complete ongoing training and professional upgrading. Valid Class 5 driver's license (minimum).
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
