  • One (1) permanent full-time Wastewater Collection Operator at North Operations Centre, 8140 Fifth Line, Georgetown (Halton Hills)

Job Summary


Reporting to the Team Supervisor of the facility, the operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining the Wastewater Pumping and Storm Water Stations.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Operate and maintain the Wastewater Pumping and Storm Water Stations.
  • Support the operation of Wastewater Collection systems and associated Force mains to meet Provincial legislation and Regional standards.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance of lift station components, pump and equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to manage all wastewater collection systems and processes.
  • Respond to inquiries, complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Compile information for reports to management and the MECP.
  • Support other functions within the Public Works department as required.
  • Record all work performed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.


Skills & Qualifications


Essential
  • A minimum of a Secondary School Diploma and Operator in Training (OIT) certification/license.
  • Possess and maintain Ministry of Environment (MECP) operator certification in Wastewater Collection.
  • Experience in and thorough knowledge of Wastewater Collection System operation and system components including pipes, pumping stations and wastewater storage.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of regulations enforced by the MECP, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other relevant environmental legislation related to Wastewater Collection.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and computer aptitude is required in order to effectively monitor and control collection processes using automatic controls and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System.
  • Must be a cooperative team member who possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred
  • Post-secondary education in a related environmental field.

Working conditions
  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check and drivers abstract by first day of employment.
  • Required to serve standby, respond to after hour callouts, and work in confined spaces as specified under the Public Works Operations Practice.
  • Required to perform designated assigned duties in inclement weather.
