JOB TITLE: Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

JOB GRADE: Grade 6

Responsibilities / Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor
• Responsible for the safe, efficient operation of the Waste Water Treatment Plant
• Continuous monitoring of Factory Talk and acknowledge alarms
• Communicate with hauling contractors for waste hauling
• Perform daily laboratory waste water testing
• Prepare reports for third party consultants and help to maintain compliance to provincial and federal governmental regulations
• Actively contribute to the \xe2\x80\x9cTEAM\xe2\x80\x9d by actively participating in team discussions and decision making
• Must work closely with production and maintenance personnel as a team player to keep optimal operation of the plant with minimum disruption
• Responsible for housekeeping in the laboratory and work areas
• Perform other duties/tasks as assigned by WWTP Lead Hand
• Verbally communicate identified Emergency/Urgent repair problems effectively
• Must comply with GMP\'s, Safety, and HACCP Best Operating Procedures
• Must be able and willing to promote continuous improvement of workplace safety

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must provide a copy of high school diploma, or equivalent GED
• Prior experience in waste water treatment operations, process line operation, lab analysis would be an asset
• Must have experience working on computers, and knowledge of Excel, Factory Talk and SAP required
• May be required to obtain provincial certification for waste water treatment, or other post secondary education in environmental sciences (available through correspondence)
• Must have good communication skills, math skills and an understanding of Physics
• Ability to work with minimum supervision in a small team environment
• Observant and detail-minded with a natural sense of urgency

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Shift work required to break operator for leaves and vacation
• Visual demands are frequent and highly visual on a large variety of equipment, processes, computer screens, and analysis
• Physical demands require frequent lifting, and stair climbing
• Noise levels require ordinary safety precautions
• Recognize dangerous situations and avoid or handle accordingly with proper equipment

The successful candidate must agree to enter into an extensive training schedule, spanning over the period of 1 to 2 years. Annual training in areas of First Aid, CPR, LOTO, Confined Space Entry are mandatory. Some outside work is required year round, collecting water samples around our site and shoveling snow. Travel between various buildings that we are responsible for is required to help maintain the grounds.
