SUMMER STUDENT AT BETTY LAKE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
Description
A Summer Student position will be available beginning in May 2024. This will be a unique experience as this Class IV plant contains both very old and modern technology. We are situated on CFB Wainwright and supply water to both the base and the town of Wainwright. The more than 60 year old plant contains flocculation, sedimentation, clarification and dual media filtration while the new section of the plant uses micro-filtration.
Responsibilities
The duties for this position will include training to do:
Extensive daily equipment checks including instrument verification and cleaning.
Lab work as necessary in a Class IV plant as well as rounds both in and outside the plant to collect samples. Some extra daily testing is done at the request of the DND.
Daily Quality Assurance rounds to inspect and test at 2 reservoirs a Pump House and a class II distribution system.
The use of a SCADA system to monitor and control many aspects of the plant.
Setting chemical dosages including Potassium Permanganate, Sulphuric Acid, Gas Chlorine, Aqueous Ammonia and Polymers.
Complete chemical inventories and initiate the ordering sequence if required.
Operation of 3 GE membranes including initiating and monitoring of the weekly Clean in Place procedures.
Maintenance including oil changes, filter changes, greasing, pneumatic valve rebuilds and repairs as required.
Participate in completing the monthly Preventative Maintenance List.
Janitorial duties as required to keep the plant clean.
Backwashing of 4 dual media sand filters as required.
Data entry in the SIMO Management Water Data Base.
Mandatory Requirements
Hours will be Monday to Friday 7:00 - 3:30 during the initial training.
10 hour shifts and weekend shifts will be required for vacation relief at times.
Steel Toed Safety Boots will be required. All other PPE will be supplied. Please note that certain PPE requires a clean-shaven face.
Applicant will be required to obtain federal (military) security clearance upon hiring which entails a detailed criminal records check and 5 full years of residence in Canada.
The applicant must also have a class 5 drivers license in good standing as well as a reliable vehicle to get to and from the WTP.
