The waste technician will be responsible to develop waste management solutions and provide technical support to the general manager and project manager on specific waste management related projects. This person will be a key resource for 1 - the execution of environmental site clean-up projects; 2 - providing expertise in processing waste at clients' site. The role will report to the General Manager.
Role Specifics
Provide support to Sales and Operations in scoping, sampling, testing and estimating new opportunities
Knowledgeable in waste treatment (liquid and solids), waste valorization and environmental chemistry
Developing solutions for customers and evaluating treatment and disposal options
Technical field support in identifying, packaging, manifesting waste
Obtain samples and submit waste for specific analyses
The waste technician is to offer project management support for complex and strategic projects
Support all divisions of CORE by being a waste stream management subject matter expert
Support the identification of new technologies and process methodologies that provides cost effective solutions for customers
Interpret lab data to determine feasibility of projects and assist with job specifications, scope of work and project bid information
Manage logistics, movement, bulking and packaging of wastes
Knowledgeable with TDG and various environmental regulations
Be present at site for project start-up to ensure smooth transition from technical scoping to operational execution
In-house laboratory analyses of various waste streams (i.e. emulsion breaking and basic sample properties; identifying chemicals, solvents and mechanical requirements to achieve ideal results)
Competent in duties including regulations (or learning regulations), monitoring and updating environmental data, compiling information for environmental performance and regulatory reports and assisting the technical manager, general manager and project manager where required
Travel to sites across Canada, including: Western Canada, Territories and Atlantic. Geographical preference is negotiable.
Minimum Qualifications and Relevant Experience Required
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects
Excellent organization and time management skills with a keen sense of urgency ensuring deadlines are met
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of various Industrial waste streams and potential treatment/disposal options
Ability to listen to stakeholder and customer needs and translate those needs into tangible solutions
Experience operating basic lab equipment and understanding basic lab testing procedures
Proficient Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Ability to evaluate the financial impact of treatment and disposal options
Project Management certification an asset
Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, an asset although not necessary based on specific experience/knowledge of field of work
