About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager of the Emergency Department, or designate, the Ward Clerk is responsible for the clerical duties assigned in the provision of efficient and effective patient care and the functioning of the Department. Duties include booking appointments, assembling patients' charts, compiling statistical information, maintaining supplies, photocopying, faxing and occasionally transcribing doctors' orders. The Ward Clerk provides pleasant, cooperative, timely and accurate information to physicians, nursing staff and patients, exhibiting sound judgment and initiative, while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

Qualifications

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade XII and successful completion of an approved Office Administration program
  • Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, E-mail, Internet, Intranet, MEDITECH
  • Ability to meet the public in person and on the telephone in a pleasant and efficient manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff and others with a pleasant and cooperative attitude
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, sound judgement and remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to prioritize job requirements and work in an effective and efficient manner
  • Ability to respect the confidentiality of personnel and patient information
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and sensitivity, and organizational health
  • Demonstrated regular attendance in current and previous employment
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Compensation & Incentives

$20.09 - $21.91 hourly
