The Vice President, HR Business Partner supports the global business strategy for International Banking, ensuring that the human resources strategies and programs align with the overall goals, values and Human Resources philosophies of the Bank and International Banking. The VP, HRBP partners closely with the Group Head, International Banking and the International Banking leadership team to deliver on these HR strategies and programs.

Accountabilities

  • Participates as a strategic partner and advisor to senior management teams in International Banking, contributing to the development of short- and long-term strategies, including Talent Strategies that are inclusive of emerging market trends; takes a lead role in determining the major HR implications of those strategies, balancing business perspective with the needs of individual employees and alignment with the Bank\'s and HR objectives.
  • Partners closely with the IB Executive Management team and both the leadership and HR teams across all International Banking countries, to continue to deliver the necessary HR guidance on key business priorities, transformational activities and cross-country collaboration.
  • Identifies and leads the implementation of HR programs, influencing strategic change, by:
  • maintaining an awareness of future/emerging trends and best practices in HR and through ongoing liaison with HR peers within and outside the Scotiabank Group;
  • conducting initial diagnostic assessments/needs analyses of business objectives;
  • developing and championing comprehensive recommendations for solutions to Executives and senior management teams;
  • assigning resources, establishing project leaders and core teams, defining roles, tasks and expectations; and,
  • monitoring HR programs and processes to ensure they meet the stakeholders\' future needs and deliver intended outcomes.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank\'s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank\'s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team
Education / Experience / Other Information
  • University degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or a related degree; advanced degree in Human Resources and/or an HR certification such as CHRL, combined with at least 15 years of Human Resources experience in progressively senior roles
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a requirement, with experience across the Bank\'s global footprint
  • Deep knowledge of multiple HR disciplines such as talent management, performance management, organizational design, change management and compensation
  • Experience in strategic HR business partner roles at a large, global organization; has partnered with senior business leaders to successfully deliver leading HR initiatives
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a track record of developing and maintaining highly effective relationships at all levels of an organization
  • Strong business acumen; proven ability to translate business needs into HR plans and programs that help support business objectives
  • Confident and assertive; comfortable challenging the status quo and will push back in an appropriate manner
  • Results-driven leader; creative, with the ability to bring new ideas to improve current practices and processes
While this role is based in the Bank\'s head office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the successful candidate for this role will be required to travel to the countries within the Bank\'s global footprint.
