Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC) is looking for a VP, Engagement & External Relations to join our team! AIOC bridges the gap between Indigenous groups seeking commercial partnerships in major projects and their financial capacity. AIOC has been delegated the authority to provide up to $1 billion in loan guarantees to reduce the cost of capital for Indigenous groups and to support their ability to raise capital to invest in natural resources, agriculture, telecommunications, and transportation projects. ABOUT THE ROLE The Vice President Engagement & External Relations (?VP?) leads, motivates, and empowers a team of Engagement professionals, leaning into collaboration, clarity, trust, empathy, and advocacy. The VP is responsible for establishing and maintaining communications and outreach with Indigenous communities, including their elected leaders, Elders, business leaders and members, and Indigenous organizations, in addition to corporate and industry partners, businesses, and external organizations. The VP is focused and detail-oriented - a strong relationship builder with an agile approach to delivering both support and value. This role develops an understanding of positions, perspectives and objectives within communities and groups to help inform AIOC activities and programs. The VP is a key first point of contact for Indigenous groups to share unique business development plans important to their communities. The VP is also responsible for the development of guidance on protocols to effectively engage specific First Nations and Metis Settlements across the province based on sound understanding of each community\'s objectives and priorities, and via maintenance of trusted relationships. The VP is a key lead for communications and external relations with all key stakeholder groups including Indigenous Relations leaders with corporate partners. The VP is a leader in the organization and will be a key support to the CIO, CEO, and Board in all outreach activities. The position provides and oversees planning and support on a range of assigned projects to foster inclusion of Indigenous perspectives on broad Corporation activities and projects. Using their ability to be decisive and ability to communicate effectively, the VP oversees the development and will personally deliver full recommendations to inform planning and project decisions made at the executive level in the Corporation. Client facing experience and exhibiting a high-level of professionalism acting as the first point of contact for the AIOC is crucial to success in the role. ACCOUNTABILITIES ? Actively meet with Indigenous groups to identify their community and business interests that align to the AIOC mandate and mission. ? Establish and maintain a relationship of trust with Indigenous community leaders. ? Establish and maintain relationships with corporate partners - lead communications and external relations with key stakeholder groups in industry including but not limited to Indigenous Relations leaders with corporate partners. ? Lead and empower a team of professionals who are responsible for the development of communication and engagement plans and related topics including external communications, external and public relations, marketing and event planning. ? Oversee and develop IC strategy, social media strategies and Indigenous culture learnings and initiatives led by Engagement team to empower the work being done within their team structure and to advance the organization. ? Develop and support engagement plans and provide proactive planning with the AIOC team and potentially Board members to identify objectives, outcomes, key stakeholders, scope, support organizational approval processes, budget requirements, and follow-up. ? Support and advise the AIOC, the CIO, CEO, Board, and all team members by identifying priorities and planning strategies for purposeful engagement, communication and outreach by the AIOC. ? Identify strategies to improve the effectiveness and consistency in the engagement process activities. QUALIFICATIONS ? Post-secondary degree (Bachelor\'s Degree or higher) and 10 years professional experience. ? Extensive leadership experience engaging and collaborating with Indigenous Peoples with an emphasis on economic participation or development. ? Proven record of leading successful collaborations and ability to develop strong relationships with Indigenous communities, settlements, and groups. ? Strong understanding of current Canadian / Indigenous issues and trends, specifically around economic participation and natural resource development. ? Awareness of legal jurisdictions and history as it relates to Indigenous economic participation. ? Ability to gather, synthesize, integrate, and interpret multi-faceted information from a wide range of sources and perspectives strategically and effectively. ? Understanding of natural resource development terminology, priorities, and issues in Alberta and their relationship to legislated duty to consult Indigenous people. ? Knowledge of existing policies and guidelines and processes would be beneficial (e.g., The Government of Alberta\'s Policy on Consultation with First Nations on Land and Natural Resource Management). ? Well-developed written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders in a politically complex environment. ? Strong team leader, with a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, corporate & external communication and finance, and thrives in both strategic and front facing roles. ? Passionate about serving Indigenous Peoples and communities, with a proven track record in partnership-building, and a strong understanding of what drives both Indigenous and industry partners. ? Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal), is highly organized and excels in dynamic, demanding environments. AIOC strives to foster an inclusive and safe environment for all.
