Purpose



As a Volunteer Support Coordinator, you will play a vital role in volunteer engagement; including recruitment/marketing, intake/training, retention/mentorship/support in order to meet the changing needs of the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society (PGHPCS).

Role Overview



As part of the

Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society (PGHPCS)

community programs, you will lead the design and delivery of volunteer learning--organizing in-service trainings, scheduling volunteer shifts, and ensuring every volunteer feels prepared, supported, and confident in their roles. You will spend time at all sites building relationships with our volunteers and ensuring that volunteering is a meaningful experience. You will take part in planning meetings to determine what volunteer vacancies are priorities throughout the year; and will assist the Society in the challenge of filling critical roles.

Key Responsibilities



Recruitment & Outreach
Lead volunteer recruitment through thoughtful marketing and public awareness campaigns--attracting individuals moved to serve with dignity and continuity. Participate in recruitment fairs/events/opportunities.

Orientation & Placement
Orient volunteers to their roles across programs, including Rotary Hospice House (RHH) and Resale Stores--ensuring readiness and clarity of purpose.

Training Development
Design and implement a comprehensive in-service training curriculum--enabling volunteers to grow in empathy, understanding, and skill; as well as to build connections with each other. This aligns tightly with hospice values.

Scheduling & Communication
Manage volunteer schedules and logistics, facilitating smooth coordination between volunteers and program needs.

Support, Supervision & Team Connection
Provide ongoing mentorship, check-ins, and structured support. Maintain consistent and compassionate communication to nurture volunteer engagement and resilience.

Program Collaboration & Growth
Work closely with the Hospice Team to explore, expand, and innovate volunteer opportunities--enhancing their impact in the community.

Volunteer Recognition
Design and execute a meaningful recognition plan--celebrating the vital contributions and commitment of our volunteer family.

Policy Implementation & Compliance
Develop, uphold, and enforce volunteer policies to ensure safe, respectful, and dignified engagement. Maintain volunteer files to meet accreditation and organizational standards

CORE COMPETENCIES



BC Certificate of High School Graduation (Grade 12 or equivalent) Previous experience working in not for profit. Preferred post-secondary education or certification in social services Clear criminal record check

Skills Required:



Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply the philosophy of Hospice Care, providing compassionate and holistic support as many of our volunteers are grieving community members. Understanding of volunteer resource management Proven ability to administer and coordinate programs, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of our community. Computer literacy , including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet software, data entry, and scheduling programs Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively connect with individuals from all walks of life. Ability to thrive in a team-based decision-making environment, collaborating with colleagues to achieve common goals. Self-directed with the ability to take initiative and work independently when needed. Self-aware, with clear personal boundaries to maintain professionalism and emotional well-being. Flexibility with working hours to accommodate the needs of our programs and volunteers.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
