United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) is a national charitable literacy organization, established in 1899 on the belief that literacy is a right. We work collaboratively with community-based agencies across Canada to provide targeted, innovative literacy and numeracy support where it's needed most. Each year, over 31,000 children, youth, and adults participate in our programs in more than 160 communities throughout the country.
About the Role
Join us in supporting children and youth through two exciting programs:
Growing Together (Saturday Mornings):
Engage with young children in interactive, educational, and play-based activities that help build confidence, social skills, and early literacy.
Homework Club (Thursday & Friday evening) :
Support school-aged children with homework help, reading, and learning activities in a safe and encouraging environment.
As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and youth, gain experience in education and community work, and be part of a welcoming and supportive team.
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):
Assisting children with learning activities, reading, and homework
Supporting program staff in planning and facilitating engaging activities
Fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants
Communicating with program staff regarding the children's progress and needs
Qualifications:
Passion for working with children and youth
Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Previous experience working with children or in educational settings is an asset but not required
Time Commitment:
Flexible, with options to volunteer weekly or biweekly
Commitment to a full program session (2hrs)
