Job Description

The Digital Sexual Violence Support Centre (DSVSC) is a Canadian and federally-incorporated non-profit that provides educational resources, research, and advocacy support for adult survivors of technology-facilitated sexual violence. The includes adults living in Canada who have faced online sexual harassment, doxxing, intimate image abuse, cyber-stalking, and the creation of sexual deepfake images and videos. The DSVSC is based in Ontario, Canada and operates on a virtual basis.

Time Commitment:

8-10 hours/month for at least 1 year

Location:

Remote in Canada. The Digital Sexual Violence Support Centre (DSVSC) is based in Ontario, Canada and follows Eastern Standard Time (EST) for any occasional meetings.

This is an unpaid volunteer position

Role Summary:

The Treasurer oversees the DSVSC's financial health, ensuring accountability, transparency, and compliance in all financial matters. The Treasurer advises the board on financial strategy, supports sustainable resource development, and helps advance the DSVSC's programs and initiatives through maintaining sound financial stewardship. The Treasurer provides

oversight and governance

, while the Executive Director retains authority for day-to-day financial administration and management.

Financial Oversight:

3-4 hours

Reviewing monthly financial statements

Monitoring budget vs. actuals Providing financial updates to the Board

Board Meetings:

2-3 hours

Attending meetings and presenting financial reports Answering finance-related questions

Record-Keeping & Compliance:

2-3 hours

Ensuring filings, audits, and compliance obligations are met Coordinating with bookkeeper/accountant/ED on records

Committee Work (Finance/Audit):

1-2 hours

Preparing for or attending finance/audit committee meetings

Key Responsibilities:



Work collaboratively with the Executive Director (ED), who manages

day-to-day financial operations

, including bookkeeping, payroll, and expense processing. Review and present

monthly and quarterly financial reports

in collaboration with the Executive Director, to ensure their accuracy before presentation to the Board. Partner with the ED in developing the DSVSC's

annual budget

, ensuring it aligns with our strategic priorities, and present it to the Board for approval. Monitor compliance with financial policies, bylaws, and funding requirements. Ensure

internal controls

are in place, including dual signing authority and separation of duties for financial transactions. Oversee the preparation of required

government filings

and lead coordination with external auditors or financial reviewers.

Monitor funding sources

, sustainability, and support donor and fund development and retention strategies. Ensure transparency and accountability in all financial practices to strengthen organizational impact. Co-sign payments to contract workers, equipment purchase and related materials that are above a threshold of $1,000 Lead the forthcoming

Finance Committee

in reviewing the DSVSC's annual budget, policies, and audit/ tax filing requirements. Reconciles or reviews bank statements monthly.

Preferred Qualifications:

CPA or nonprofit financial experience, budgeting knowledge

Qualifications:



Strong background in budgeting, accounting, or nonprofit finance. Demonstrated commitment to gender-based violence prevention, women's health or sexual violence preveniton

Consistently available

to attend finance committee and board meetings. Prepared to review financials monthly and sign off on necessary transactions in a timely manner. No conflicts of interest that would compromise financial oversight. Clean background check (particularly for fraud, bankruptcy, or financial misconduct). Knowledge of financial reporting, audits, and CRA charitable compliance. Comfortable analyzing financial data, capable of identifying spending trends, and can make sound financial decisions CPA designation or equivalent nonprofit financial experience is an asset. Willing to learn about technology facilitated sexual violence (TFSV)
