Intent of the process

The results of this process will be used to fill a full-time term assignment at level. The 2 year term will begin around October 01, 2025. This process may also be used to fill future vacancies that may arise at the GT-04 group & level, in various locations, with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Seasonal Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

EDUCATION


Two years post-secondary program in outdoor recreation or a related field or an acceptable combination of education and experience.


Degree equivalency


Operational Certification:

Valid Advanced First Aid Certification (minimum 80-hour course) and CPR; CAA Avalanche Operations Level 2. CAA Avalanche Professional or possess the skills and experience required to apply and qualify as a CAA Avalanche Professional
EXPERIENCE

Experience in conducting avalanche forecasting; Experience travelling in mountainous terrain summer and winter including ski touring, scrambling and climbing. Experience participating in mountain search and rescue operations; Experience analyzing, assessing and providing advice on issues relating to visitor or public safety; Experience providing first aid assistance; Experience working around helicopters.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of principles, standards, techniques and procedures involved in search and rescue operations; Knowledge of avalanche monitoring, forecasting techniques, safety principles, practices and initiatives.
ABILITIES

Ability to plan, prepare and deliver training to coworkers; Ability to work in an outdoor environment even during severe weather, as well as in an office environment using a computer. Ability to research and provide input into the development or revision of visitor safety program standards, requirements and/or techniques; Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment that includes human wildlife co-existence duties; Ability to conduct search and rescue operations; Ability to conduct risk assessments both formally and informally and then complete job tasks with inherent risk.

ASSET EDUCATION

Preference may be given to applicants possessing an undergraduate, masters or PHD in an avalanche related field.

ASSET OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Preference may be given to applicants possessing the following additional certifications:

Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) mountain stream guiding certification or apprenticeship (Rock, Ski, Alpine, Mountain) Search and Rescue Basics Search Manager Training Organized Rope Rescue Training or Rope Access Class D Helicopter Rescue Training
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment; Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required; Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation; Willingness to obtain certifications applicable to the job.

Obtain and maintain Reliability Status; Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 Driver's License; Maintain relevant certifications. Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical evaluation as outlined in Parks Canada Occupational Health Monitoring Program.
