Summary



We are seeking a Safety Technician to join our team in Hay river, Northwest Territories. This role plays a vital part in ensuring a safe working environment by implementing safety protocols, conducting training sessions, and monitoring compliance with safety regulations. The successful candidate will also deliver practical training and mentorship to Safety Technician I positions. While the role is primarily field-based, candidates must be willing to work remotely and respond to deployment requests on short notice, supporting project sites throughout the region. Horizon's commitment to a safe and compliant workplace and will play a leadership role in identifying potential hazards and developing effective strategies to mitigate risks.

Responsibilities



Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards in the workplace. Develop and implement training programs for employees on safety practices and emergency procedures. Collaborate with management to create and update safety policies and procedures. Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incident reports. Assist in the fabrication of safety equipment or modifications as needed to enhance workplace safety. Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices related to occupational health and safety. Mentor and guide employees in safety technician I positions. Provide procedural assistance in OHSE Program development initiatives, record keeping, and with occupational health and wellness administration.

Requirements



Confined Space Entry Certification Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards. Fall Protection Certification (issued within the last 2 years). Basic First Aid with CPR/AED. Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or other equivalent educational program. Excellent situational awareness, teamwork, and communication skills. Previous work experience considered an asset. Marine or shipyard experience considered an asset.
