Job Summary:
The Vision Care Consultant (Ophthalmic Technician Trainee and Optician) is a position to be trained to be Vision Care Consultant in 6 months and where Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care by conducting thorough testing and consultations regarding visual fields and surgeries. This role is vital to ensuring precise refraction measurements and supporting ophthalmologists in clinical settings. The Vision Care Consultant will be integral to maintaining the high standards of care at UELC. The individual required to commute to different company sites.
Key Responsibilities
Assist ophthalmologists in accurately and efficiently assessing patients' visual acuity (far and near), peripheral vision, depth and color perception, and pupils for RAPD. This includes administering eye drops for anesthetization or dilation, performing intraocular pressure measurements with Goldmann Tonometry, and conducting pachymetry.
Operate advanced diagnostic equipment including Visual Field Testing, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Photography, Ultrasound (A-scan, B-scan, UBM), Topography, Endothelial Cell Count, Phoroptor, and IOL Master.
Perform tests on research patients in strict compliance with research protocols and guidelines.
Provide patients with detailed instructions regarding eye care, adhering to clinic policies and protocols.
Ensure timely and accurate management of medical records, with all documentation meeting the standards set for medical record content.
Collaborate with patients and families to involve them in decision-making processes concerning their vision care, supporting patient-centered care and upholding the Patient's Bill of Rights.
Apply scientific knowledge systematically to identify and address issues, resolving conflicts as they arise.
Continuously seek and implement innovative ideas and resources to improve patient care delivery.
Assist with additional duties as required by the clinic.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Must be able to Refraction using Phoropter and experience using Phoropter more than 2-3 years.
Keen attention to detail and precision due to the complexity of the role.
Strong technical skills with manual dexterity for intricate work.
Ability to manage patient expectations and concerns effectively.
Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset, eager to learn and mentor others.
Capable of interpreting ambiguous situations and organizing them into structured processes.
Able to manage multiple priorities, tight deadlines, and high-volume periods.
Professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Required Knowledge & Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an ophthalmology setting is mandatory.
Proficiency in using ophthalmology diagnostic tools including biometry, IOL Master, refraction, topography, OCT, perimetry, slit lamp examination, basic eye motility, and related testing procedures.
Experience working with electronic patient scheduling software and/or electronic medical records (EMR).
In-depth understanding of ophthalmic equipment, procedures, and techniques essential to efficient clinic operations.
Previous experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Research experience is an asset but not required.
Required Qualifications & Certifications:
B.Sc. in a related field and must have an optician license (Must have)
Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) is an asset.
Licensed Optician is required.
