The Road Safety Division at the Department of Public Works is responsible for the administration of drivers and vehicles in the province. We operate in a regulatory environment to ensure the policies, legislation, and regulations we are responsible for efficiently guide road safety. We also maintain records regarding vehicle registration, driver licensing, medical fitness, driver competency and compliance, all working together to ensure a safe road network.


About Our Opportunity



A position is available with the Violations team responsible for processing convictions and defaults onto driver records. In this capacity, data entry skills, accuracy and analysis are essential as the information you deal with is complex and timely action is required.


Primary Accountabilities



As a Driver Compliance Clerk under the Road Safety Division, you are responsible for the accurate and timely processing of data to driver records. You are responsible for initiating appropriate follow-up action for drivers as required under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act and corresponding regulations.

We operate in a fast-paced environment where the decisions you make have a direct impact on clients. We need your accuracy and ability to multitask and deal with changing priorities to keep objectives on track. Confidentiality is of utmost importance too, given the sensitive information you will encounter on a regular basis.

This position provides the opportunity to work in conjunction with other Registry of Motor Vehicle staff with regards to driver records. You will also have exposure to sources of external information including the Provincial Courts, Law Enforcement, and the Department of Justice including information from other Canadian provinces and territories.


Qualifications and Experience



You have four (4) years of related experience in a customer service and/or administrative environment. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You must have a working knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and an understanding of the rules of the road. You must be proficient in data entry and have well developed computer skills; including familiarity with Microsoft programs including Outlook.

You must have high attention to detail and be accurate in your work; the data you input will have a direct impact on your clients. You have the ability to interpret and analyze driver records and make recommendations in alignment and accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act and legislation.

Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) System, and the Justice Enterprise Information Network (JEIN) are considered assets.

You are a self-motivated individual who works both independently with minimal supervision and participates fully as an effective team player. You maintain confidentiality in all you do. You possess problem solving abilities and also analyze and present information in a clear, concise manner. Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential when responding to client inquiries and internal and external stakeholders. You consistently maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for client and customer service; particularly when assisting clients who are experiencing a stressful situation.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.


Equivalency



An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies include, but are not limited to:
  • A completed related bachelors degree
  • A completed related diploma and two (2) years of experience

Working Conditions



Work is performed primarily in an open office environment which may be stressful due to nature of work, and interactions with others is continual and interruptive.

This role requires the completion of repetitive tasks on a regular basis; good hand dexterity for continual phone and computer use is beneficial. This role also requires a high level of visual and mental concentration.

There is a high degree of pressure present while maintaining accuracy and balancing the volume of work and meeting deadlines.

This position requires the successful candidate to work on-site.
This is a Term employment opportunity with anticipated end date of September 2, 2024 The appointment status Term is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: CL 18 Salary Range: $1,675.62 - $1,874.80 Bi-Weekly
