The working language is French. The office is located inside the CBC North building. Your role will be to cover regional news and current affairs as well as the issues that matter to residents of Canadaxe2x80x99s Far North. It will be an opportunity to connect with communities and do original reporting.You will tell a wide range of stories, touching on the environment, the economy, politics, social and Indigenous issues, and the French-speaking community.You will be expected to travel and file for all editorial platforms (digital, radio, TV and social), with a focus on digital content and online articles for the ICI Grand Nord web page. With the Radio-Canada Alberta signal being carried in Yellowknife, you will also be required to contribute material to radio programs. You will pitch, research, write and present news items for our newscasts, web pages and social media accounts, as well as Radio-Canadaxe2x80x99s interregional and national programming.The successful candidate will be an idea generator who thrives on daily and breaking news as well as covering original or developing stories.Key tasks:Attend daily assignment meetings.Develop and maintain a network of contacts.Pitch and develop story ideas.Develop a rapport with the CBC North team.Gather and research information on regional issues and events.Arrange and conduct interviews.In addition to possessing the qualifications below, the ideal person may also be a cross-platform reporter willing to be trained as a videojournalist!We are looking for a candidate with the following:Combination of education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three (3) yearsxe2x80x99 practical, relevant experience in the fieldExcellent writing, storytelling and interviewing skills on both digital and broadcast mediaEase with live reportingSolid command of French (oral and written comprehension and communication) and strong proficiency in English (oral comprehension and communication)Knowledge of the Far North, local communities, Canadian politics and related issues is an assetSensitivity to the territoryxe2x80x99s cultural communitiesKnowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and programming policiesAbility to work with a variety of teams but also be a strong self-starter who can work alone as neededCritical mindProven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environmentExperience working on multiple stories simultaneouslyUnderstanding of the public broadcasterxe2x80x99s role and responsibilitiesExperience as a videojournalist is an assetProficiency with photography, video and editing tools and ability to use lighting kits is an assetValid driverxe2x80x99s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadaxe2x80x99s insurance companyFamiliarity with in-house production tools is an asset (Dalet, MediaCentral, iNews, Scoop, Hindenburg, Adobe Premiere, Avid)Note: please provide a link to your online demo and articles.Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the nextstep will be asked to complete a background check.
