Victim Services Worker

Job Description

Arrow and Slocan Lakes Community Services is currently accepting applications for a Victim Services Program Coordinator. This position is approximately 18.5 hours per week. Reporting to the Nakusp RCMP Detachment Commander or designate, this individual provides support services, practical assistance, information and referrals to clients who have been victims of all types of crime or serious trauma. Services are provided with the intent to lessen the impact of crime and trauma on primary victims and assist in their recovery and to reduce the trauma of secondary victims.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

:

Provide emotional support and practical assistance to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. Provide crisis responses and intervention services as necessary Establish and maintain a sound working relationship with RCMP, Crown Counsel and Community Agencies. Assess clients' need for other services and provide recommendations and information on other community resources and professionals such as counsellors, legal aid lawyers, physicians and mental health services. Provide accompaniment and/or transportation such as to court, police, and medical appointments. Attendance at crisis incidents at the request of an RCMP officer.

Job Required Qualifications

:

Related post-secondary education and/or combination of training, education and experience Victim Service experience preferred with knowledge of victim's rights under the Victim of Crime Act. Skills in crisis response, crisis management, personal and family support, practical and family problem-solving and negotiation, and communication with individuals and families. Flexibility in terms of schedule - availability to respond as required. Valid BC Class 5 Drivers license. Current Driver's Abstract to be attached to the application. RCMP Enhanced Reliability and Security Clearance will be required - not required as part of the application process, however, will be required upon consideration for employment.
Wage will be according to the UFCW Collective Agreement Grid 33, Step 2 - $ 31.54 per hour. The start date of this position is as soon as possible pending security clearance. A full job description is available upon request.
