Vice President, Engineering

Job Description

As Vice-President, Engineering, you will be leading all engineering functions across Chantier Davie Canada Inc.'s shipbuilding and repair programs. This role is primarily responsible for the technical management of design and equipment supply subcontractors, strategic and assembly planning of production activities, support to the supply chain for equipment and material procurement, and conduct of all vessel commissioning activities. In general, Davie subcontracts the preparation of all design and production drawings. The engineering function is split into three departments, each led by a director who functionally reports to the Vice President, Engineering. These departments are:


Functional Engineering--Responsible for vessel design, equipment specifications, and overall technical compliance. Production Engineering--Responsible for advance planning, design for manufacture, assembly planning, and production information. ILS/Commissioning -- A dual-focus department covering integrated logistics support (ILS) and commissioning activities.

More specifically, you will:


Set and maintain policies governing all product engineering activities at Davie, ensuring they are carried out within a framework approved by the executive team and in accordance with the company's mission, vision, and values. Provide leadership to the engineering team through a combination of vision development for each department, objective setting, delegated authority, and corrective action as required. Ensure program requirements are met through on-time delivery of engineering products that are fit for purpose, quality-assured, and fully compliant. Support the development and continual improvement of all engineering processes. Identify and manage technical risks. Ensure compliance with legal obligations associated to engineering practices in Quebec. Foster a positive and respectful work environment where individuals can grow, contribute, and share ideas openly. Ensure company policies are followed. Conduct personnel reviews biannually. Oversee hiring within budget constraints. Establish training programs as appropriate. Ensure that engineering software tools are identified and budgeted. Support engineering directors in budget preparation and in maintaining budgetary discipline. Achieve and establish the company's current future objectives and milestones. Maintain alignment across departments and programs as part of a matrix organization. Allow programs to operate effectively while promoting common engineering processes as identified in the Corporate Management System (CMS). Work with colleagues to minimize and eliminate siloed behaviours.

Qualifications




Twenty plus (20+) years of progressive experience in ship design, engineering, manufacturing and commissioning for complex, fit-for-purpose vessels Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field. Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of driving design and engineering excellence. Excellent communication skills. Full professional proficiency in English is mandatory, with professional working proficiency in French highly desirable. English is required for this position, as the incumbent will be required to interact with our English-speaking clients, partners, and suppliers; Ability to lead and manage in a complex, multi-program, and multi-project environment.
