Overview

This role supports Temple Insurance, a wholly owned P&C carrier, which was established to strategically complement Munich Re operations in Canada. Temple Insurance, as a Canadian licensed insurance carrier, enables business units across the Munich Re Group to write direct P&C business in Canada.

Under the oversight of the Senior Vice President, Legal, Compliance, and Claims, the Vice President, Claims with Temple Insurance will be responsible for driving the quality and consistency of all losses for Temple claims, including, reserving, indemnity, expense control, large loss, customer service and litigation management. You will lead and manage a team of claim professionals, and foster an inclusive and customer centric culture. As the face of Temple claims internally and externally, the VP will work collaboratively with other members of claim management and our business partners.

Responsibilities:
Day-to-day operation and management of the company's Claims department. Develop, implement, and monitor procedures, guidelines and controls to ensure efficient and appropriate claims handling in line with the requirements of the Munich Re Group, best practices, and the Senior Vice President, Legal, Compliance, and Claims.
Lead, mentor, manage and train a team of Claims representatives.
Ensure claims are assessed promptly and professionally including developing and analysing loss information to determine reinsurance reserves, considering application of reinsurance contract terms to submitted loss(es).
Promote a customer service orientation and foster claims service excellence, including developing and nurturing a personal rapport with claim executives of client companies.
Keep up-to-date with and be responsive to changes to applicable legal developments and regulations.
Manage and approve the preparation of Large Loss Advice reports and other loss documentation as required.
Oversee records management for the company's Claims group.
Initiate and promote inter-departmental communications with Underwriting and Client Management teams to assess, clarify and resolve client requests and needs.
Initiate and participate in inter-departmental communications to clarify and/or inform on insured issues, disputes and needs.
Work cooperatively and successfully with the Munich Re Group Claims Group home office Claims group in Munich, Germany and the Global Speciality Insurance colleagues globally.
Provide oversight for coverage analyses, insured responses, and covered payments.
Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, MGA's and brokers.
Co-ordinate, lead and/or participate in client field claim reviews.
Report to and inform the Senior Vice President, Legal, Compliance and Claims regularly, as directed or necessary, on the operation and progress of the Claims team and all claims work and initiatives, including requesting and obtaining all required authority in a timely manner and complying with all procedures, guidelines and controls.

First and foremost, you demonstrate a natural desire to provide exceptional client service through their energy, enthusiasm, and initiative.
In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:
You ideally have a Bachelor's Degree in law, business or finance.
You possess your Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) / Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation or are progressing towards one.
You have a minimum 15 years of multi-line claims experience, including experience leading a team.
You have experience managing staff with a successful track record building high performance teams
You possess excellent technical knowledge and understanding of the commercial Property and Casualty insurance and reinsurance business in North America.
You are motivated and highly organized with strong communication and time management skills, with a keen ability to prioritize and function well under pressure.
You have advanced software/application knowledge including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and an aptitude for and comfort with claims systems technologies.
You demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, adaptability, drive and initiative.
You have the ability to build and nurture strong working relationships with both clients and colleagues.
You are able and willing to travel nationally and internationally as needed.
You are fluent in English and fluency in French is an asset.
