The Role
The Vice President, Specialty Pharmacy will be responsible for overseeing the growth and development of all SPS pharmacies, future facility opportunities and pharmacy partners; direct all aspects of the pharmacy daily operations and practices; accountable for delivering/meeting financial goals/targets; and to develop short and long-term growth plans and Implement specialty pharmacy programs for manufacturers and patients.
The candidate will be responsible for leading teams of dedicated professionals and collaborating with colleagues across the corporation in an organization where integrity, customer centricity, accountability, respect, and excellence are at the core of their corporate values. Viable candidates will possess a deep knowledge of the specialty prescription services sector, with a strong track record of commercial and operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Leadership
Lead and manage all aspects of the Specialty Prescription Services business to attain operational excellence and commercial growth to achieve financial objectives and goals in accordance with McKesson's objectives
Lead and support development and achievement of strategic objectives and collaborative initiatives across business units
Develop and recommend short-term and long-term objectives for the businesses that support the achievement of the company's goals. Reviews these objectives on an ongoing basis to ensure that they continue to be relevant and appropriate
Prioritize patient-centricity and superior customer experiences in all aspects of the Pharmacy business as a vital outcome
Oversee the team in leading the growth and development of the Pharmacy Segment:
Grow and develop pharmacy management and programs to achieve financial targets for the business; participate in the recruitment of pharmacy managers and pharmacists with expertise in specialty
Encourage team to ideate, innovate and execute strategies in supportive of growing the Pharmacy business
Build a network of pharmaceutical resources to accommodate current and future staff requirements
Develop strategies for the development of future specialty pharmacy facilities and programs
Develop processes to ensure highest patient care standards
Lead Account and Business Development: Participate in new business development initiatives for existing and potential clients in conjunction with Account Managers and Business Development staff
Lead Payer strategies for the business including the development of relationships with insurers, PBMs, 3rd party administrators; identify strategic partnerships with Payers that would drive growth of the business and ensuring that there is a close collaboration between Pharmacy and PSP to maximize our value proposition to our customers. Represent McKesson Specialty in shaping Pharmacy regulatory changes on a National/Provincial level while keeping abreast of industry regulatory changes
Identify trends, issues, risks and develop strategies in response for service segments
Operational Leadership
Ensure the operational and financial management and control for the Specialty Prescription Services line of business
Develop business plans, budgets ensure achievement of financial targets; review and evaluate business performance on a continuing basis and establish measures of performance, executing action plans to correct issues and achieve key objectives
Ensure that effective systems, procedures, and financial controls are established and maintained for business operations
Directs projects and strategic initiatives including digital working in collaboration with IT and Biopharma innovation lead, to realize significant productivity gains, cost savings and effective utilization of premium resources while providing improved customer/patient experiences (i.e. high net promoter score)
Act on behalf of McKesson Specialty as its Director with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
Develop and implement procedures and policies across all key activities of the business:
Ensure pharmacy compliance with provincial/federal regulatory requirements and entertain good relations with pharmacy governing bodies
Medication dispensing, claims processing and shipping
Pharmaceutical care programs
Organization, storage of inventory and material as per specific health/technical requirements
Implementation of information systems to manage processing, inventory, and ordering
Compliance with Quality Management System and applicable Privacy SOPs and supporting regulations
Review and resolution of customer grievances
Coordination with specialty distribution, patients, and manufacturers to change/propose/improve programs
Coordination with logistics and patients' services groups to implement and maintain manufacturer customer drug programs
Team Development and Leadership
Promote the Five Shared Principles of McKesson Canada and McKesson, demonstrating commitment by his/her own actions and by encouraging others to do the same
Define the optimal organizational structure for the business both short and long term, being adaptable to a fast changing and evolving environment
Develop a strong team employing a performance-based management system. In collaboration with HR, develop and implement strategies for employee training, development, succession, and talent retention. Lead engagement initiatives for the business
Inspire, motivate, and empower the team through effective delegation and appropriate authority, while providing the team with the support, resources and ongoing coaching as needed to set the team for success
Oversee the creation of succession and development plans by identifying successors for key roles (including the VP, Pharmacy) within the Business
Build a culture of open, timely and constructive communication and feedback
Instill a cross-enterprise/business mindset and promote a OneMcKesson approach
Maintain appropriate and timely communications with all levels of the organization
Champion McKesson's company policies and ensure that they are fully respected
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
10 years+ of pharmacy experience
Solid understanding of specialty pharmaceutical sector and competitive landscape
Deep understanding of pharmacy practice requirements and changing scope of pharmacists nationally
Critical Skills
Experience in leading National Specialty Pharmacy network is an asset
Executive level experience developing and leading teams to implement significant commercial and operational improvements across sizeable/ complex networks, working cross-functionally
Excellent business and financial acumen; prior P&L management experience a significant asset

Education
Pharmacy degree required. Licensed registered pharmacist in Ontario with an ability to qualify as a Director with the College licensure in BC would be an asset
