Vice President, Retail Models & Analytics, GRM

Purpose

Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Retail Risk models, parameters and segmentations used for retail and small business provisions and regulatory capital calculations. Such activities should be carried ensuring models and other analytical constructs are reflective of portfolio\'s quality and performance, while complying with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leads a team of data scientists, analysts, risk management, technology and business operations associates by supporting BNS lines of business and risk management partners with world-class data, models, advanced analytics, insights and advice. Drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Ensures that innovative predictive models, parameters and segmentations are built to balance industry leading methodologies and regulatory requirements while minimizing operation risk. These statistical models support various product lines, the provisioning and regulatory capital processes. Ensures models are deployed and run in an environment which produces accurate results and contains all necessary controls certifying integrity. Ownership across the entire modeling lifecycle.
  • Drives initiatives that incorporate large scale and complex traditional and non-traditional data sources that identify opportunities which enhance model performance.
  • Leads the strategic planning, development, implementation, deployment, monitoring and management of retail, small business product and customer decisioning models, customer prioritization models, valuation and profitability frameworks, income prediction and pricing models, capital management, and reliable forecasting frameworks.
  • Partners with key stakeholders to understand priorities and execute using operating models and capabilities, cloud and on-premise technology platforms, structured, semi-structured and unstructured big data, AI& ML methodologies, advanced analytics, productivity tools, Generative AI and automation.
  • Ensure regulatory parameters (PD, EAD, and LGD) meet requirements and documentation adheres to OSFI standards. The incumbent must have expert knowledge of the parameter estimation development and validation requirements. He/she must communicate/defend the robustness of parameter estimates to OSFI and Senior Bank Executive.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank\'s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank\'s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • This role collaborates closely with multiple areas of the Bank including: Finance, Stress Testing, Oversight and Model Validation. It holds responsibility for overseeing all the retail models within the Bank, encompassing decisioning models, IFRS 9, and Capital models. These models play a crucial role in informing various strategic decisions for the Bank. egulatory Parameters: This role holds responsibility for managing the parameters that serve as inputs for the Capital and provisioning models.
Education and Experience
  • A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or a quantitative discipline is required. In addition, an MBA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of predictive modeling methodologies combined with practical application.
  • Expert knowledge of the regulatory frameworks (Basel III, IFRS9 etc.)
  • Great knowledge of origination, portfolio management, and collection models, policies, processes and systems.
  • Fantastic knowledge of robust data infrastructures required for model development and analytics. Economic business and financial trends in the retail credit industry Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to coordinate cross functional teams of business and key stakeholders.
