What is the opportunity?

The VP, Data Governance is responsible for the effective implementation of a number of distinct areas of the Data Governance team's mandate, within the RBC CM Data Management group

As a member of a dynamic, fast paced team, this role brings strong data analysis skills and leadership, effective written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic and a demonstrated capability to multi-task effectively. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills as well as a demonstrated sense of urgency to respond to changing priorities at times. This is complemented by a positive attitude and a willingness to take accountability for results achieved.

A significant focus is the ability to apply principles to business problems, setting out the problem, identifying clear options and implications, and then facilitating agreements with data stewards, operational and business leads. This is an exciting role in a high-focus area of the bank. For the right person the role has ample scope for development. It requires an energetic self-starter, with intelligence, aptitude, enthusiasm and somebody who feels comfortable influencing at senior levels.

What will you do?

Provide Capital Markets' metadata deliverables for regulatory and change programs

Ensure that initiatives applying Data Governance Principles, have long-term benefits to the use and effectiveness of data used within RBC

Rollout of RBC's enterprise data domains in Capital Markets. Including the ranking and documentation of Critical Data Elements and the modeling of business process, products and definitions

Identifies accountable executives for roles in line with Enterprise Data Standards

Demonstrates through metadata documentation that RBC CM understands its critical data and has the right roles in place to govern it.

Lead small teams of Business Analysts

Drive the facilitation of data issue management, by capturing facts, framing the problem, creating option summaries and recommending a resolution based on operational and costs impact

Building strong trust-based relationships with business data stewards and analysts across Capital Markets in order to increase the business's utility of existing data

Defining approaches to measure the success of every initiative completed within Data Governance

Documenting process steps, inputs and outputs and working with reference data operations teams and business users to implement the new processes, linking these to principles and business outcomes

Assisting and/or running working groups as required

Participating in the development and distribution of internal and external reporting, capturing performance, KPIs, status and other metrics that demonstrate progress

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

Degree educated

7 years+ experience in data analysis, architecture or governance

Strong understanding of the data lifecycle, including strong focus on data governance

Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven interpersonal skills

Strong analytical and organizational skills. Tenacity to identify the root cause of problems based on fact not conjecture.

Capability to quickly switch contexts between strategic and detailed analyses

Experience with Collibra or other leading Data Governance tools

Nice to Have:

Data Quality functional & process knowledge

Working knowledge of SQL to generate custom queries and analysis

Project Management qualification, e.g. PMP or PRINCE II

CFA or graduate finance or quantitative degree.

Communicate effectively with RBC CM professionals at varying levels of seniority, including applying insight to determine the business impact of data issues that may arise in the availability, integrity or completeness of data which can be supported through better governance
