Specific Competencies:
- Assist receptionists with client interaction tasks including appointment scheduling, check-in, patient admission, invoicing, and discharge
- Maintain a clean and organized reception and examination area
- Communicate with clients about general pet healthcare, including parasite control, diets, vaccines, and surgical procedures
- Remain calm and compassionate under pressure while supporting a diverse clientele
- Demonstrate computer literacy (Windows, Word, Excel)
- Show a strong interest in animal welfare and handle animals gently and confidently
- Support veterinarians and technicians with treatments including medication and vaccine administration, sample collection, lab processing, and surgical preparation
- Assist with patient care, radiology, and the administration of IV, IM, SQ, and oral medications
- Aid in wound care, bandaging, and other supportive procedures
- Monitor and record vital signs including weight, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate
- Work confidently with small animals to provide quality care, minimize patient stress, and ensure safety for all
- Assist with humane euthanasia as requested
- Maintain accurate documentation in electronic and paper medical records
- Prepare medications and prescriptions as directed by veterinarians
- Ensure medical and over-the-counter supplies are stocked and available
- Support hospital cleaning routines, including laundry, floors, treatment areas, kennels, and kitchen
- Walk and feed patients as directed by veterinarians or technicians
- Demonstrate self-awareness and emotional intelligence in daily interactions
- Use sound judgment to recognize changes in patient condition and report them promptly
- Show resilience, flexibility, and strong time management in a dynamic environment
- Be dependable, accountable, and self-motivated
