We also maintain records regarding vehicle registration, driver licensing, medical fitness, driver competency, and compliance, all working together to ensure a safe road network.About Our OpportunityAs the Vehicle Standards Engineer, you play an important role of supporting safe vehicle fitness and operations by leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of legislation, regulations, policies and standards. Through your engineering expertise, you work to maximize safety and economic growth in the Province by addressing and resolving issues in the areas of vehicle and equipment safety inspection, weights, dimensions, and load securement. You will develop and recommend improvements to legislation, regulations, policies and standards through researching jurisdictional and industry standards, overseeing vehicle dynamic analysis, as well as assessing the related technical, economic and safety implications. Furthermore, you are a critical support in addressing the use of after-market, add-on vehicle equipment, and of retrofitted vehicles through researching and developing legislation, regulations, policy and standards.You collaborate regularly with Transport Canada and the other Provinces and Territories along with other government and industry representatives. Your strong relationship building abilities are essential to your success in this role; especially when responding to inquiries and complaints from the industry and the public and participating in industry and governmental committees regarding vehicle and equipment safety standards.Qualifications and ExperienceA Bachelor of Civil or Mechanical Engineering plus six (6) years related experience is required. You must be (or meet the requirements to be) actively registered as a Full Member (P. Eng) with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS).You have demonstrated knowledge and an understanding of automotive engineering principles and standards, as well as vehicle operations, equipment standards, and vehicle dynamics.As the ideal candidate, you are analytical and resourceful in nature. You are a creative and innovative problem solver who develops solutions to issues faced in the industry. You work diligently to achieve goals, meet strict deadlines, and utilize your project management skills to lead effective and efficient research and programs.
