This is a 8 to 12 month coop term starting in May 2024.

Mentorship & Training strategy:

You will be introduced to our software systems & document storage through a training program that introduces architectural elements, then straight piping (domestic & mechanical distribution systems), and then the most suitable discipline above. Educational milestones/targets will be set and measured. You will be in constant contact with the project VDC Coordinator, and the Project Superintendent, so that your work is vetted, and agrees with project strategies.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Modelling 3D building system that correct for mistakes in consultant drawings, with QAQC steps for the at least one of disciplines laid out above
  • Ensuring that systems must relevant meet code requirements
  • Ensuring that systems must be installable with maximum efficiency, and minimize material/labour costs
  • Prepare dynamo scripts to optimize repetitive tasks for the VDC team
  • Coordinating elements with other trades & building elements
  • Issuing complete paper/pdf drawings to the site team, with QAQC steps
  • Ensuring that Committed delivery dates are met
  • Working with the other members of the VDC team (the VDC Coordinator, and other modellers)
  • Bringing profitability and competitive advantage to our business with VDC technologies
  • Educating new VDC users and collaborators both on site and in office
  • Reporting incorrect fittings to the VDC Manager
  • Other duties as requested
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Working towards a University degree or College diploma in Mechanical Engineering or applicable education
  • Must have experience with programming languages; experience with Python, C# and Design Scripts is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of object oriented and visual programming is considered an asset
  • Shall be capable of creating required logic and sequence for the required programming
  • Must have experience using various 3D modeling software; preference given for AutoCAD, REVIT, Navisworks and Goggle Sketchup
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills with hands-on working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • Team player, energetic, resourceful, reliable, and timely
  • Eager to work and learn in a fast-paced industry
  • Comfortable working on a construction job site, or office setting
Desirable:
  • Consideration given to those with an interest or minor in programming, building automation or computer science
  • Related work experience is an asset, including from other co-op placements, internships, projects
  • Experience in the construction industry a strong asset
  • Understanding of mechanical building systems (plumbing and HVAC) is a strong asset
NOTE: Should you be shortlisted for this role prior to the interview stage, you will be asked to submit a portfolio of either modelling (REVIT/AutoCAD/sketchup etc.) work, hand drawings, or artistic work for the panel\'s assessment of your spatial intelligence/skill level.
