Position: Utility ADivision: Transportation and ConstructionDepartment: TransportationTerm: 1 Temporary Full Time position(s) available for approximately 12 months.Closing Date: 10/28/2024Labour Group: CUPE 859Posting: 3615Job SummaryUnder supervision of the Supervisor VI (sign and paint shop), this position operates the Impact Attenuator Truck, Large Line-marking Truck and the Bucket/Auger.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains the Large Line-marking Truck, including routine daily maintenance, servicing and cleaning of the line-painting apparatus.
  • Operates and maintains the Impact Attenuator Truck and Bucket/Auger Truck.
  • Completes the annual post-season tear down and pre-season assembly of the painting apparatus.
  • Assembles, installs, inspects, maintains and removes traffic detours and crash barriers.
  • Assembles, installs, maintains and removes traffic, informational and specialty signs and support systems as required.
  • Assists with all aspects of the annual paint programs.
  • Maintains daily work activity logs, material and maintenance records, including recording the data required for the Maintenance Management System.
  • Participates in shop and yard maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation, Training, and Experience Requirements:
  • Grade 12 education
  • Five years\' experience operating various types of equipment, including three years\' experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices related to signs, detours and pavement markings.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver\'s Licence.
  • Current driver\'s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of a valid first aid certificate.
  • Successful completion of, or the ability to complete successfully, the Bucket/Auger certification module within six months after being awarded the position.
  • Successful completion of a recognized traffic control course.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and parts used in repairing and servicing equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings related to sign, detour and pavement markings.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply WHMIS, health and safety standards.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public and other civic employees.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties under all weather conditions.
