Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and market-savvy
Used Car Export Specialist
to join our dynamic automotive group. This role is critical to our vehicle acquisition and cross-border sales strategy, focused on identifying, purchasing, and exporting used vehicles from a variety of sources--including wholesale auctions, dealerships, and fleet companies--for profitable resale across our U.S. and Canadian dealership network.
The ideal candidate is deeply knowledgeable about vehicle market trends, auction dynamics, cross-border compliance, and regional demand fluctuations. They will play a strategic role in maintaining a profitable used car inventory while ensuring all units meet regional age, mileage, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Acquisition:
Source and acquire used vehicles from various channels including wholesale auctions (Manheim, ADESA, etc.), dealerships, rental/fleet providers, and direct sellers.
Market Evaluation:
Continuously analyze market trends, vehicle valuations, and demand across U.S. states and Canadian provinces to make informed purchasing decisions that maximize resale potential.
Cross-Border Compliance:
Ensure all acquired vehicles comply with federal, state, and provincial regulations regarding import/export, mileage caps, vehicle age restrictions, emissions standards, and title documentation.
Profit Optimization:
Strategically select and purchase vehicles with a clear path to profit, factoring in reconditioning costs, transportation, duties/tariffs, and resale pricing.
Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with auction representatives, fleet managers, and dealership contacts to gain access to exclusive inventory and favorable terms.
Economic Awareness:
Stay attuned to broader economic indicators (interest rates, fuel prices, currency exchange, consumer confidence) that influence used car demand and pricing trends.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of purchases, compliance checks, and export logistics. Provide regular reports to leadership on inventory health, margins, and market opportunities.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in vehicle acquisition, remarketing, or auction buying (wholesale auto auction experience is required)
Deep knowledge of U.S. and Canadian vehicle regulations, including export/import restrictions
Familiarity with auction platforms (e.g., Manheim, ADESA, TradeRev) and vehicle valuation tools (e.g., Black Book, VAuto, Carfax, AutoCheck)
Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate multiple market variables
Excellent negotiation and communication skills
Highly organized and detail-oriented, especially with documentation and regulatory compliance
Ability to travel as needed within North America
Valid driver's license and passport (or ability to obtain one)
Preferred Attributes:
Previous experience working as a Used Car Sales Manager, Vehicle Acquisition Specialist, or Wholesale Buyer in the automotive industry
Experience with cross-border logistics or vehicle shipping coordination
Strong network of industry contacts in both the U.S. and Canada
