POSITION - UNIVERSAL DESIGN / ACCESSIBILITY SPECIALIST
LOCATION - TORONTO (Downtown) HYBRID ROLE (Arcadis office 2 days a week)

Role description:
We are looking for a Universal Design Specialist who is PASSIONATE about accessibility and barrier-free design.
Our work is primarily focused on complex, public sector projects that have committed to implementing barrier-free solutions that go beyond the minimum requirements of the applicable Building Codes. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of work experience in an architectural/interior design office and be an out-of-the-box thinker with strong knowledge of the code minimums, as well as familiarity with a range of accessibility standards in frequent use across North America and beyond, including AODA, Rick Hansen Certification, CSA and ADA. They will be able to analyze variable built-environment considerations, be analytic and creative in interpreting and prioritizing requirements, and possess a talent for developing creative solutions that reflect a depth of understanding of universal design theories in real-world applications.

Role accountabilities:
Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams (architecture, engineering, urban design, and others) to support design and construction
Assisting with the integration of universal design principles into project designs, functional layouts, diagrams, presentation materials, construction documents and specifications.
Reviewing client standards and reference documents, and identifying questions on unclear intentions or contradictory requirements that must be resolved to complete the design process.
Preparing reports and diagrams to explain the universal design logic as applied to project designs at various phases of development, and how the project-specific requirements and reference standards are being implemented.
Assisting in the construction administration phase through support of the overall team in accessibility reviews, general review, site instructions and change orders.
Attendance at project site(s) as necessary to review installations and comment on contractor's work. On occasion, job responsibilities, such as site access, or public forums, may require work outside of regular office hours.
Assisting Senior team members with other tasks, including updating logs and checklists, supporting public engagement events, and others.

Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum Degree in Architecture or Interior Design
Minimum 5 years of experience in an architectural/interior design firm working on projects with a
focus on accessibility and universal design
Project experience working with OBC, AODA, and Municipal Standards
Persons with disabilities or lived experiences with persons with disabilities will be considered an asset
Proficiency with Revit and BIM software, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office
Well organized with the ability to manage time and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment

The salary range for this position is $57,786 to $92,457. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualifications for the role.
