The Unit Manager is responsible for providing interdisciplinary clinical leadership and operational management for patient care units. Activities are achieved through a presence and visibility in the unit. Through clinical leadership, mentoring, coaching and performance management of staff, the Unit Manager ensures high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for coaching team members to achieve comprehensive and integrated care planning, promote the development of clinical practice quality improvements, implement evidence-based practice and critically assess, evaluate, anticipate and address risks to patient and staff safety. This role leads the implementation of provincial, zone and local clinical and operational priorities and initiatives at the unit level. It is expected that the Unit Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Accountable for the implementation and sustainability of collaborative care and appropriate scope of practice in clinical operations that support quality clinical performance and safe clinical outcomes. Some outcomes of interest include Patient and family-centred care, high-performing teams, quality management processes, collaborative practice including all health/support disciplines and safe care/work environments. Responsible for coaching, mentoring and leading team members in the delivery of quality care and clinical quality improvements. Resource utilization will be relevant, efficient and effective.
