Your Opportunity:

The Specialized Geriatric Services is a multidisciplinary team that offers services to both the RDRHC in-patient units, the Seniors Ambulatory Clinic as well as our Community Outreach Nurse Team. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for performing clerical, receptionist and booking duties for the team. Some of your key duties will include but not limited to processing incoming referrals, booking appointments, processing physician orders, answering phones, checking in patients as well as maintaining patient records and charts. As the key point of first contact for the inpatient and outpatient areas, you will play a key role in fostering an effective team environment on the unit.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program. Additional Required Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as a demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team is required. Ability to deal with ambiguity, conflict and competing demands in a calm and professional manner are required. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and time management ability is required. The successful candidate will have a high level of comfort working and proficiency with computers and clinical information systems (Meditech, Netcare, Connect Care, Microsoft Office). Comfort and proficiency in working with office equipment is also a requirement. The successful candidate must have a desire to work with the older adult population and a passion to provide excellence in client centered care. Preferred Qualifications: Ambulatory clinic and/or previous hospital experience is preferred. Training in Connect Care is preferred.
